Bob - for that panel behind the dash, I used a spray on rust removal gel. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then cleaned it all off. The rust came off nicely. I put a bit of clear on it after that and it has held up well. My convertible is an avocado interior too so I feel your pain. I...
Finished up the dashboard refresh today including a makeover for the rim blow wheel and a new heater core. All new LED lights from Bill at HiPo Parts and new carpet too. I also had Rocketman rework my tach and ammeter. This was my winter project.
It’s straightforward. There are two clips that hold the two halves of the switch together. Carefully remove those and you can separate the halves for inspection and cleaning. Be careful here as the pieces tend to just fall out. Here’s an exploded view of my original switch.
I replaced mine a few months ago. I started by removing the headlight switch first. You can get to that easier than the convertible top switch. With that big headlight switch out of the way there’s much more room to get that top switch out and you can actually see what you are doing. Both...
Looking for an in dash front speaker and mounting frame. Speaker doesn’t necessarily have to work. Just need the whole assembly as show in this photo. Let me know a price and shipping to 43023 if you have one available. Thanks!
I had the X's and Y's and a few V's on my original 1973 Mach 1 351C 4V block, 4 bolt mains. The car was a July 1973 build. Here are a few photos from before the engine rebuild. These were only in the corners.
I have three 73 Mustangs. Two very late production Mach 1s and an early production convertible. Each of them have had these small yellow cap plugs under the carpet on the drivers side rear. It must have been some kind of protective cover for something being installed at the time. Anyone else...
Here is a photo of the original rim blow chrome strip from my 53k mile Mach 1. It is chrome tape under a layer of clear epoxy that comes out even with the surface. I just finished a rim blow for my convertible in avocado and I used 1/8” chrome tape with a clear epoxy over that. I did two turns...
This Mach one has tires from mid 1993. I have only driven this car 40 miles in the last 12 years. It has only 53,000 original miles. The tires appear to be in great shape. I will be getting new tires for this car in the spring. I don’t want to take a chance on these.
I can tell you what I did with this wheel but don’t conflate my results with any kind of expertise on my part 😀. I did some trial and error on an old practice steering wheel I had and decided to use what worked best there for my rim blow wheel. I used JB Weld two part plastic epoxy putty for the...
Today was the big day to get the rim blow wheel installed into the convertible after refurbishment and color change to avocado. I am really happy with the way this turned out! Here’s a photo of the two spoke wheel compared to the three spoke rim blow.
