    351C 2V Heads Help

Have you tried octane booster just to see how it runs with the ping taken away? I have about 9.5 to 1 compression with my pistons and 2V heads, but have my advance less than I would like. I used to be able to get 94 octane, but sometimes only 91 is available (in Canada).

What did you do to your car today?

I just put my cougar on these rollers to help when I work on it, and immediately the spring like weather started. I'm near Barrie.

'71 Mach 1 Tires and Wheels

I have 15 on the front and 16 on the rear. I think that balances out the big butt on my car. To me it still looks natural enough, where 17 or bigger looks modern.

    Guess the weight

My 73 Cougar, presumably the heaviest version of this chassis is 3700. 351H, alum intake, Fmx. The real world weights always seem higher than the Ford numbers.

    Which Tires

For our old cars, age of the tire is more relevant than miles. I recently replaced tires with perfect tread but they were more than 10 years old and had cracks in the side. I found that modern tires are better than BFG TAs, but they can sort of over power old style suspension, so they are not...

71 Mach 1 Model Kit Builds

Me too. The Camaro is a little Tamiya spray can, and the Cutlass is actual automotive color match spray can.

Did the distributor change include new points?

Front end shimmy AND a bounce.SMH

I posted this picture of my 73 Cougar front tire on the Fbook page as a reminder for people to check their tires. I remember buying the tires new, so I didn't think of them as old. Date code was for 33rd week of 06, making them 17 years old.

    Side mirrors

Here's my solution. Looks crap, but I was using the car to drive to work in, almost a daily driver. I'm cheap and lazy, so I got this trailer towing accessory. I have something similar on the driver's side, because I don't like blindspots on either side.

    73 project (advice wanted)

When you're looking for headers for 2V heads, I think Hooker 6921 will work with power steering. Some kind of error early on when the charts and footnotes were made. Maybe someone can confirm this?

    starter related ques

I had this problem with one starter. It would spin very fast when not engaging. I would try again and then it was normal. As time went on, it would take more attempts to get a proper engagement. Some part inside needs to push the gear out. I finally bought a new (rebuilt) starter.

Should I adjust my wheel alignment after my tire swap?

I just experienced something similar. New front tires are slightly narrower, and the problem you described got better, driving feels better, which I didn't expect. The tire shop refused to do alignment, the owner saying his young employees don't have relevant experience.

Front suspension loose, or just old?

I found these fittings in the upper control arms. I'll buy a grease gun if these will work for me. New tires has made the steering feel better, but the tire place doesn't want to work on old cars.

FOR ALL THE FOLKS THAT CAN'T AFFORD A '71 BOSS 351

That must feel rewarding to be part of this process. I would love to see it done. Looks like they sprayed more stuff on details, to help highlight them.
