Is the main gauge cluster housing the same for cars with a tach vs a clock or warning light panel in the left side? Mine has a couple of broken tabs and I'd like to know what I need to shop for.
 
yes that is correct.
it was one cluster setup for which the components could be interchanged based on your car‘s accessories
- left side (tach/idiot light gauge cluster/clock)
- right side (speedo, with or without trip meter)
- center (gas gauge)

however the wiring (9 pin vs 13 pin connector?...all I remember is the smaller pin is for the tach setup) and circuit board is different for tach and idiot light cluster cars (I can’t comment on the clock setup, but presumably the wiring is diff as well)
 
The main housing itself (PN D1ZF-10841) is the same. The fuel gauge and it's mounting plate is common as well. The differences are the mounting plates for the gauges in the two big 'holes'.

The speedometer plate is different for tach cars due to the trip odometer (only available on tach cars) and main harness plug size, the other plate is different depending on if it is for a Tach, Clock or warning light assembly.

I have quite a few stripped housings. If you need one PM me.

The back side of the dash cluster housing is different between tach and non-tach dash clusters. However, the tach dash cluster is the same for 71-73, as is the non-tach dash cluster.
