Fold down back seat

I guessed that it would be difficult ot retro fit the fold down rear seat/hatch.....not to mention expensive to find the parts! Looking at a 71 base Mach 1 in NC, looks like the drivers side frame rail is gone, along w/much of the floor on the drivers side, some rust thru under the rear seat, trunk and passenger front floor too. Deck lid is pretty rusty along w/bottom of passenger door. And the car has been fixed/repainted what looks like maybe 2-4 yrs ago, so I know lots was filled then. The front crossmember that has the struts mount to is rusted badly on one front side- and that appears to be a $300 part. Even though the car is pretty complete and has a title, Im not going to buy it for $5500 since the condition of the motor and trans is also unknown...... comments???

put a fold down seat in this Mustang several years ago, takes a bit of work but the biggest thing is getting all the correct parts needed.
As far as the car your looking at, I’d stay away as to many things can and will be hidden with a fancy paint job and bondo.
I‘m fully restoring a 68 Mustang fastback, lots of metal to replace, however I’m talking many pictures to document the restoration as anyone should do in this day and age
 
So easy to do on a 69-70 (simple bolt in), but the 71-73 requires more work and parts. If I had a 71-73 that I really loved, I would certainly give it a go. The challenge would absolutely be finding all the parts. When I did my 69 many years ago, I found a severely wrecked car and was able to strip all the parts out myself. Of the 71-73’s I had, I have always bought one that already had the option.
 
I did it on 71 Boss decades ago removed the welded parts off the donor with a hammer and chisel which I would think it would be better to torch them off, but beware of gas tank. Had a welder do a couple of welds to install it and it was done. Of course there was taking off the parts and restoring them as needed and reinstalling. Most important is to get the welds in the exact place. I don't remembering it being that hard. Now I will only buy a loaded car which aren't too hard to find with lots of patience and searching.
