Did you have to replace your front fenders on your 73 in order to use that 71 chrome bumper? I thought of doing that on my 73 but I was under teh impression that in order to do so, I had to use 71 (or maybe 72) front fenders .

71 owned since 73. Driven in high-school. 225,000 miles. 351C-V4, air and auto. Engine stretch to 408 cdi (494 horse power) and AOD transmission. 3.00 rear gear swapped for 3.70 Ford posi. Absolute blast to drive. Always a conversation starter when we take it out.

The previous owner did it, sorry not sure.

84,000 mile power drop top H code, original sheet metal, numbers matching, automatic, a/c blows cold and working clock, but I keep it unplugged to preserve it...Marti report shows only 240 built of the over 11,000 convertibles with this paint/trim codes. Built May 30, 1973. I have original grille and latch, but 71-72 grille bolts right in without modifications except adjustment of the center support reach. Don’t think it’s seen rain in decades due to its lack of any corrosion...pictures to follow, loading from my album on iPad playing hard to get.6D40BBD0-88C8-482F-AC51-BE1BA37643E0.jpeg8B0F109C-D939-4A48-9B9C-B5403E2D3397.jpegB799860C-9CE3-4A29-BA79-CDFEAE7F0423.jpeg4742203E-C491-4CE7-AE49-5255309187E3.jpeg9DC0D8E0-65B3-4BB5-8EA4-40E771A3F414.jpeg

Attached are a few of the photos of out 1973 Mach 1 Mustang, and or 1973 Mustang Convertible. In short, they are both incredibly beautiful vehicles, and both run just as good as they look.

I have a 72 Mach I, same colour. Curious, is the chrome bumper a simple bolt on? I kind of like it. It’s growing on me!
I believe you would need to change the mounting brackets too, but I'm not sure because it was done by the previous owner about 8 years ago. I can try to add a picture of the mounts tomorrow.

1973 Convertible. 302 with Motorsport heads, headers, 4 barrel. Bought around 1984, was a daily driver for years. Now weekend fun.

With all the science going on recently I was curious as to the number of 71 vs 72 vs 73 on this forum. Please take the time to post up year and make. Believe it or not this will give a pretty good sample group as to the percentage of survivors vs the # produced. IF YOUR PROUD OF IT, POST IT!!!

2- 73 Q codes. 1 sport package automatic, 1 regular interior 4 speed.

I did the swap to the 71 bumper and brackets. Yes, you have to change out the fenders & the brackets. Pic 1 shows a 71 complete assy. next to the 73 urethane bumper & brackets. The 71 complete assy. is 35 lbs (even with the bolts). The 73 The bumper alone is @ 75 lbs + each telescoping bracket is 23 lbs. This is very bad ballast that far in front of your front wheels. I saved @ 90lbs. Picture 2 shows you a blue 71 fender vs a 73 brown fender. The 73 notches are smaller for the heavy battleship bumper. Once you get this together, the rear bolt and nut plate assy will line up fine, however, the front bolt hole will limit how far back you go. It's best to relocate the forward hole a little further back and a little higher for a good tight fit.
