For what is worth we just take a piece of aluminum thin wall pipe and insert it through the brass factory bypass plate.

This simply makes the hole smaller to better match a Windsor style t-stats while still keeping the bypass function when starting cold.

The inserted pipe is cut just long enough to bottom out below the brass plate while remaining flush with the top face of the factory brass bypass.

Even bottomed it does not seal off the needed radiator bypass function when the engine is cold and the t-stat is closed.

No need to machine anything as off the shelf standard pipe works perfectly.

You cut the pipe just long enough that it can't be pushed past the brass bypass and into the block and remains flush with the top edge of the factory brass insert. It usually ends up being a little over a 1/4 inch long. It is easy to measure the correct length.

The outside diameter is a nice snug fit and can simply be tapped into place.

The Windsor style t-stat does not have to tightly fit into this added piece of pipe. You should still see a little bit of space around the "button" on bottom of the Windsor stat and the inside of the added pipe. The thinnest walled pipe available works just fine. If the pipe wall is to thick the t-stat may not fit inside it or get stuck in it.

So..........long story short,

When the Windsor t-stat opens it goes into a now smaller hole and forces more / most of the the coolant through the radiator.

The nice thing is nothing has to be very exact to make this work.

Windsor thermostats should be available and cheap long into the future.
