(1) How do you test for an open Tach ?
(2) How can you confirm this why the engine isn't starting.
(3) Is there a replacement available ?
Thanks for any help

If your tach has 'failed open' the engine will fire while cranking (starting), but will die as soon as the key is released to the the run position.
As far as a replacemnt goes I do not know of anyone that repairs the Faria tachs so you will have to find a working original or have your tach converted.

A simple test to see if your tach is keeping your motor from starting/running is, pull the tach plug and jumper across it. I actually keep a jumper in the car, just in case. You can get the two-prong plug from your local car parts store. Look in the trailer section.

There's a person up in Idaho that still repairs Faria tachs. PM me for his contact information.

This has been a learning experience. I never knew Faria made the tachometers in our cars. The tach in my car failed within the first year of my Father buying it new. The dealer replaced it under warranty only to have it crap out again when out of warranty. It has been broken ever since. I have an Autometer on the column hooked to the MSD-6a box. I would actually like to fix the original someday. Rocketman will be my choice when that time comes.

Not meaning to hijack this post, but my patience is too short to spend a lot of time doing a search, which turned up nothing on my initial attempt.
Can someone please quickly explain why a factory tach will not work with an MSD ignition and distributor. I know the factory tach is a positive pulse type, but what needs to be done (other than getting rid of that MSD system and going to DuraSpark) to convert it so it will work with MSD.
The reason I ask is for a guy I just met who has a 73 Mach 1 with a 393 stroker and many other mods, but no working tach.
If more appropriate, a PM would be appreciated so I can help my new 'friend'.
