Hi everyone. I try to do my own research before I ask questions. But on this topic I am finding conflicting advice online.
I am installing new leaf springs on the rear of my ‘71 Mach 1. They are Eaton Detroit springs. The bushings at the top of the shackle will slide in just fine without greasing them. So do the bushings going into the rear spring eye.
Even so, would you recommend I grease the outside of the bushing anyway? Or would you leave them dry since it isn’t needed in order to install them?
Thank you for your help and advice.

I just shot them with WD 40. It ease installation with no worry about grease affecting the rubber. Glad you got Eaton springs. I went for the Boss 351 springs, which are 153lb spring rate on my 71 Mach. With the new revised Addco 7/8" sway bar, the ride is definitely stiffer, but it goes around corners like it's on rails.
I also added the Eaton extended shackles to raise the ass end a bit, but to be honest, they don't make a significant difference, maybe a 1/4" at center wheel arch.

Thank you for your reply. I wanted the rear up a bit too and struggled which way to go. In the end I had them make them with a 2” lift. I’m very interested to get it back in the ground and see if it’s what I hoped for. If not, I can always go your route and change the shackles. Either way it has to be an improvement. It was sagging wicked bad. Lol. I live in the Charlotte area so I’m hoping to take it on power tour this summer.

For sure, let us know how it works out........ with pictures!!
These cars are ass draggers for sure, so a little higher is better, but I don't like it when they're too high either.

For shocks, I don't have the budget for really fancy ones, so earlier on, I had KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, but I found then a bit too stiff. Eaton recommend KYB Excel G for the springs I bought, so I changed them. I like the ride and the way they handle.
