I have the factory schematic book, but it is terribly hard to read being one color, small print and no key.

Does anyone have a simplified schematic or know where to find one?

Thanks,

Ron

I appreciate it, but the wiki one is what I already have, except mine is in booklet form.

The 71 schematic is a lot better, but still not the best.

What would be very cool, if someone could take the attached vehicle wiring view, and add illustrations of the color-coding wires. Sp, instead of black lines for wires, we would have the correct color-codes.

The schematics we have are great to understand how the systems work, but it is a little challenging and for some, intimidating, to try and resolve the issues. Just a idea.

Agreed, the available diagrams are lacking. I have a couple of the aftermarket wiring diagram booklets and they're 90's tech copy resolution - not great. They're significantly reduced, as the original diagrams were 17x30 with a trifold. Forel's colorized diagrams look good, and if one wanted, could be brought down to Staples/OfficeMax etc and printed out to any size needed.

@Cribbs74 I've attached a copy of the original diagrams with the connector illustrations, circuit color callouts, etc. This is what the Ford techs used. It's still not to the level of Forel's colorized diagrams, but it's a far sight better than the booklets. Hopefully it helps. You could also take or send it to Staples etc and have them print it out on their large format plotters.

You can grab the 72 PDF from the Wiki and poster print it if you need a larger size.

Forel Publishing offers colorized factory diagrams in PDF downloads

The Forel Colorized wiring schematics for 1972 Mustangs (and 1973) are really nice. The one advantage they have over the "simplified" schematics from the 7173Mustangs version (which is a nice set of schematics) is that the Forel schematics include the locations of all electrical connectors, splices, and grounds, as well as an image of each connector. The Forel document has several schematic pages that have their various circuits colorized to make it easier to trace a circuit within the schematic itself. If nothing else it is a lot less boring to look at than just a set of black ink schematics. It also has a fuse block layout and schematic, an index of various electrical items re: where on the schematics you will find the items in the index, a wiring color to circuit correlation chart, and a section on vacuum systems. But, the Vacuum Section is really more oriented to the HVAC system, not engine vacuum calibration schematics. I strongly encourage you to acquire at least the Forel 1972 Mustang electrical schematic PDF file. In my fairly humble opinion it is more than worth every nickel spent on the file.

Following is a ScreenShot of one page from the Forel PDF that shows some connectors, Ground, and Splice information. This level of detail is not available in the simpler, but still very nice, schematics I have downloaded from the 7173Mustangs.com site. Please do not get me wrong. The 7173Mustangs.com schematic files have really good, and accurate information. But there are times when the connector, ground, and/or splice information can be quite useful. I have copies of both the 7173Mustangs.com files, and the Forel files. The smaller 7173Mustangs PDF files are easier to use on my iPad, for instance, where I have some serious storage issues.

There is one downside to the Forel PDF files. Most of the PDF files i have licensed and downloaded from Forel are password protected. If you try to grab just a page or several pages, or do a ScreenShot of the various PDF pages, the resultant image will be a little blurry (the original images are very clear). What I did was license an application that removed the password protection from PDF files. Now I can output one or several pages as a file snippet, or do ScreenShots that I can then enhance before using as I wish. It is not a deal breaker, I get why they password protected the PDF files. But, when I licensed the PDF files I did so in order to be able to use the content a certain way, and their protective efforts interfered with that.

In addition to the electrical schematic information, I have a Ford 1972 Vacuum and Emission Control Systems manual in a PDF file. I also have a set of schematics from The Mustang Barn for 1967 - 1972 engines that I put into a consolidated file grouped and sorted by year and engine size (with their knowledge and approval). The two PDF files for the various engine vacuum schematics I have are attached to this post. The address for the Forel Publications Electrical Schematics PDF files for 1972 Mustangs is:

I think the schematics are not 100% accurate either. Per example, the buzzer as far as I am concerned has two wires feeding it but the schematic shows a connector with two. Also, doesn't the lights-on relay have a 3 prong connector? The schematic shows two wires.
