I have a 71, and am converting it to deluxe doors….want to make sure I have everything I need. the Osborn assembly manual doesn’t have deluxe doors…I have:
door panels(new TMI)
window felt
window crank and parts
remote mirror parts
lower carpet
polished strip to trim carpet
clips for mounting panel
grab handles
Trim cup to go around door opening handle.
woodgrain insert
door lock knobs
deluxe door handle (chrome) and the underlying mechanical hardware(deluxe style) to connect to latch

Are there any brackets that hold the panel to the door, like around door pull or armrest? how does it attach solid?

Thanks

Looks like you have it all. There is a screw behind the interior door handle that threads into the door sheet metal that add some ridgidity to the panel for pulling the door closed. Are you using door speakers?

While you have the doors apart you may want to freshen up the window guides and upper tensioners. There are slight differences in the window mounting between the years so know what year assemblies you're using. Check out this thread: https://7173mustangs.com/threads/new-glass-install.24503/

Thanks both! Yes grommets are in the door panel, and window guides were removed cleaned and regressed when I rebuilt the doors….1 door is a 71, the other isa 73 and they are different! No speakers…and no cutouts in doors for them…

The deluxe door handles don't mate up to the standard latch release assembly. You'll need to make an adapter or get deluxe latch releases. MrGMHale (Gilbert Hale) has a YouTube video on repairing it. In the next few days, I'll be making my own adapters to get them to mate up correctly. I'll try to post pictures when I do.

I bought a set of latch assemblies for deluxe doors and have them installed! 😀 Putting bits together….

Hi,
do the doors fit well during installation or were there problems?

Yes, I did do a video on repairing a Deluxe Door Handle on our 73 MustangConvertible. In our case the factory spot weld that held the chrome handle to a small adapter plate broke. Easy fix, but in your case you may need to do some additional fabrication. Regardless, I hope the video helps.

With the deluxe style door handles they fit well, the pulls and cups are not perfect, but ok….still have some final work to do to get perfected.
