I was one of those that finished high school in 1966 that was the high of the Vietnam war. I took all the testing like all the guys did in high school to try to get you to enlist. I was too tall to be a pilot so I did not sign up. I had not idea that my choice of occupation as a tool & die maker would keep me out of Vietnam. I sometimes regret not going there to help save the lives of some of our hero's.

Memorial day back many years ago was called "Decoration Day" in the south. I can remember going with my grandmother to clean the burial site of some of our family. I was to honor those who lost their lives in the battle of the North and South. Over the years it changed to be to honor all those who lost their lives in battle no matter where or when.

May we all honor those that served and especially those who gave their lives so that we could all have the freedom we no have.

I thank all those soldiers that served and give the families of those who lost loved ones a special thanks for their giving and sacrifice.

My grandfather and father and older brother were all Navy so it was all I ever wanted to do as a kid. I enlisted before I had even graduated high school in what the Navy called the Cache program. I became active duty as soon as I graduated and it was off to basic training. I served 4 yrs and probably should have stayed in but my girlfriend talked me into taking a honorable discharge at the end of my 4year enlistment. When people thank me for my service I never know how to respond because I feel it was my honor and duty to serve my country and no thanks are needed but it is nice to be recognized for my service. For those who gave they're last full measure of devotion for my country I say thank you for your sacrifice and bravery,I will be forever in your debt.

I graduated High School in '73, was required to go to my local draft board, sign up, take a physical, and wait, as 1H. The draft had become a lottery, but I was never called. I still have my draft card.
