Trunk replacement without cutting it in pieces

Agree. NPD had the big piece that required freight but they were nice and cut me a break. CJ only had the short version, maybe a bigger one was out of stock. I’ve still got the shorter version in the box in my garage. They just credited back and told me to keep it. Great for me if I can find a...

NEED ALL MEMBERS TO RESPOND PLEASE!

72 Mach 1 originally H code with FMX. Installing an R code I’m building. 4-bolt main with closed chamber Boss 351 heads. 72 Coupe originally with F code that got swapped for a 351M in 78. That sucker is gone. Putting in the H code from my Mach 1 so I can sell off the car. I did a ring/gasket job...

Trunk replacement without cutting it in pieces

Watch out for which pan you get. I bought one from CJ and it was about 4” short of what I needed. I was trying to save money from the one NPD sold that has a freight charge. The CJ one doesn’t get up over that back hump where the shocks mount. If all you need is pretty much the flat part, you’re...

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

I finally got my stitches out and went back to work on my cars this past weekend. Only to find out the bell housing I bought at the beginning of December was the wrong one. So once again, all work on my coupe came to a halt. I didn’t investigate enough these C-4’s to 351C housings. I got it...

    1972 Passenger Fasten Seatbelt Light

I can’t believe a place like Scott Drake isn’t making these. Almost impossible to come by and a growing demand. Just look at the astronomical prices on eBay for these and they aren’t even that great. $90-95 for a half decent one. SD could sell these new for $40 all day and night and make a...

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

My wife had the same idea. Should I go ribbed for my car’s pleasure?

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

I had such great plans this holiday break. Unfortunately I sliced my finger on a sharp knife opening Christmas gifts. 4 stitches and my finger in a splint until January 3rd. I’ve got nothing big enough to slip over my finger to keep grease off and it’s my index finger so I use it for everything...

1971 mach Trunk bracket details and back panel holes

Not yet but the latch barely catches now. Adding weatherstrip will just push it higher and never latch.

In trunk brackets / taillight panel

I finally found a detailed diagram in the Body Assembly Manual. My taillight panel was about 1/4” lower than the pan. I just manipulated the brackets until they fit. Not sure why the gap. I set the panel in matching the weatherstrip track. It’s good now.

Trunk Floor, Tail Panel, Quarter Panels, Outer wheel wells - Order of importance?

Another suggestion for fitting the panels together before welding is Cleco pins. I watched a video and got a decent starter set from Amazon next day. Now I regret not using them sooner.

Trunk Floor, Tail Panel, Quarter Panels, Outer wheel wells - Order of importance?

I made the mistake of buying one of these shorter trunk pans from CJ Pony because it had free shipping vs. NPD that had the regular pan but $175 shipping. In the end I bought the NPD because I already cut out the old pan to the weld joints. CJ was nice enough to refund me and didn’t want the pan...

In trunk brackets / taillight panel

Mine don’t sit flat so I’m guessing I need to grind down the new trunk pan so the two match up. I didn’t consider this when I welded in the taillight panel. I just lined up along the bottom and made sure the weatherstrip channels lined up. I guess that’s part of the learning experience. I’ve got...

1971 mach Trunk bracket details and back panel holes

I just replaced my taillight panel and welded this old bracket back in place. It fits perfectly and the upper welds to the weatherstrip channel perfectly. I put the lock catch back on last night and now my trunk lid is too low. I’ve adjusted the bracket as high as it goes and the lock as low as...
