Agreed. The standard grill attaches directly to the latch bracket. The the '71 and '72 sport grille uses the "8182" bracket.

It's the grille with the sport lamps, like this, not just Mach 1.

My '72 Mach 1 came with a twist cap. Back in the 83-85 era, I stopped at my local dealer's parts department and bought a flip open cap. I think it took about 30-45 minutes to install. Piece of cake job.

Well crud. There was a support bracket that popped up on eBay today. I was pretty busy and by the time I saw it, it was sold! Crap... I'll just have to keep looking I suppose 😢

Hey gang, hope to get the thread back on topic. I have the Ford parts books, but they're kind of buried in my shop right now. Does the 429 have a different Z-bar than the small blocks? I'm dropping a 572 in my '72 Mach 1 and I'm thinking of going with a top loader. Need a block side pivot.
