Pulling the trigger on my 351C rebuild

Mine had never been rebuilt when I got it, so I was looking forward to a standard .020" bore and go from there... except that it had been seized and sitting so long that the #4 had so much corrosion that it went into the cylinder wall. The machine shop was able to get that 'scar' out by boring...

    Opinions on going EFI

It sounds like we have similar engines. Mine's good for (on paper, haven't dyno'd) around 406hp (based on CompCams CamQuest application when selecting my cam and noting everything I'd done to the engine). My Edelbrock Performer 1406 (600 cfm) does an excellent job of feeding it - no hiccups...

72 Mach1 - Convert from stock heater box to after market AC

I have a Classic Auto Air HVAC in my car and couldn't be happier. Mine is an earlier kit, so it has the slider adapters for the controls, but other than that, it's pretty much the same. My only complaint is the lack of an idler pulley on the A/C compressor belt. CAA said to just run a longer...

Hydraulic lifter survey Re: Isky ISK-432-HY

Wow. I'm amazed to hear so much dislike for CompCams. Granted, I built mine in 2011, but I used CompCams 'everything' (except the Crane 7/16" rocker studs), and I couldn't be happier - runs like a champ, never any stumbles, hassles or weird noises. Either things have really gone that far...

    Opinions on going EFI

How often is the buzzer on when driving, though? LOL! Boilermaster makes an awesome point: the electrical system needs to be up to the task. I know the stock alternator on my Mach 1 will be getting an upgrade before I get the EFI ready for install. I have some of those things he mentioned...

    Opinions on going EFI

You've just given me the perfect reason NOT to give away my Edelbrock 1406 4bbl after I get the E-Street TBI installed - Thanks! I've also got a surge pump (Edelbrock) for mine, so the swap back (if necessary) would also not be a big deal. I'm in the process of installing an Edelbrock Pro Flo...

    What would you do?

Pictures would definitely be a big help, as well as a better idea of what 'bent frame' actually means. The reason unibody cars are written off when they get bent is because there's not a proper frame to keep everything straight. Once something get compressed, it's super involved and difficult...

    What would you do?

Wow. So sorry to hear this. I didn't quite go down the same path, but the sentiment is the same. Since you mentioned not being a mechanic, I'd probably look toward getting another with the insurance money. The only reason I say that is because there's a lot involved in putting one back...

Tach install in no tach car

I actually pulled mine apart and slid the inner workings of the gauge back into place using the factory mounting. Lost the cool 'Bosch' logo and 'Volts' lettering in the process, but I was more concerned with maintaining the downward sweeping needles than anything. Also swapped in LEDs, if you...

Tach install in no tach car

I have the Bosch voltmeter in mine (pic above on the other page) but with the factory shroud/shield. I might consider swapping in the other Bosch gauges so they all match like yours. Looks awesome - well done!

How was it originally in the trunk, the fuel tank , undercarriage and the interior of the body ?

I'd offer my opinion, but this is what my trunk looked like when I got it. That sporty piece of angle iron and chain were holding the front of the gas tank in-place. Yes, that's daylight and 'shop floor' showing through.

    Cops on the Highway!

I'm the same way (Ultra-Defensive Mode). It's harder to see out of the Mach 1 than my Ram, the mirrors are WAY smaller, and I'm a bit more crowded inside the car than in my Ram's 'living room on wheels.' So yeah - I'm very conservative when driving it. Normally, people are pretty chill when...

    Cops on the Highway!

It's actually a Texas law to slow down to 10 below the posted speed limit when emergency vehicles are present on the side(s) of the road if there are no other lanes to change to - but even then, you better be at the speed limit even with a lane or more separation. It's something like a $500 fine.

    Cops on the Highway!

Loved the joke! Cracked me up. I hate when they're doing a few under and everybody bunches up behind 'em. I came up to a line of a dozen or so cars behind a DPS/THP car doing around 5 under. So, I set the cruise for the actual speed limit, and passed 'em all... I waved to the patrolman as I...

    Sport steering wheel

Yes - be cautious which model years you look at. The '78-'83 Fairmonts and '79-'86 Mustangs (Fox bodies) had the horn button on the signal stalk, rather than a proper center hub horn button. My Mom had a '78 Fairmont Futura, and I later bought an '82 Mustang - which had the exact identical...

    I’m sorry. I’ve strayed.

I'm in the same boat - LOVE cars... ALL cars. I'm also on several forums as well (JeepForums, 5thGenRam, Camaro5, just to name a few), since those are my other 'toys.' Unfortunately, the Mach 1's taking a back seat right now to my Jeep V8 project, but at least he's all tucked-in safe and sound...

'71 Boss 12k miles. This one will be expensive!

Could be. I don't know for sure. I don't think I've ever seen one without one, though. Just like it's getting harder and harder to find Mach 1s that don't have stripes, spoilers, Magnums, and Ram Air stickers (whether it has legit Ram Air or not).

'71 Boss 12k miles. This one will be expensive!

I wouldn't own a Boss 351. WAY too much money for a car I'd be afraid to drive - every trip brings down the value (with added mileage and wear) and increases the risk of something bad happening. No thanks. Still, it's a gorgeous car, but I'm a little puzzled by the missing trunk spoiler.

    Favorite Detailing Products

I tried everything... and I mean everything... and could not get the letters on the fronts to clean up. I finally hit 'em lightly with a 2.5" orbital pad sander using 400 grit - didn't take much, either. Cleaned 'em right up and had kept the brown away for about a year as it slowly started...
