    Crites Performance Parts Has Closed

I just went to visit Crites performance parts web site and seen that they have closed due to the passing of Charles Crites. Sad to see another parts supplier for our older cars go to the wayside.

    1971 Sportsroof

Welcome from Ohio. From your pictures it looks like the body is fairly decent shape but can't really tell how the inside and under neath is. As Sheriff mention, what are your plans for it. I don't know what you paid for the car but with enough money anything can be fixed and made to look...

    Happy Christmas 2023/24

Thank you and hoping you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As I have gotten older, I've come to realize that the things that make me the happiest are not the presents and physical things I have but the love of my family and friends. Happy Holidays to all.

    New

Welcome from Ohio. Please post some pictures and tell us a little about your car if you would please. We like to see what other members have and learn a little about backstory. As tpj mentioned, midlife would be a good source to check with. You might also want to try a search on the site and...

    Cooling help needed

You're headed in the right direction. I wouldn't hesitate to put in a 195 and see how that works. For $10 or so it's worth the try. The extra time in the radiator might get you in the 200 to 205 area which would be fine. I think dropping down the initial timing is going in the wrong...

    Cooling help needed

The very first thing you should do is put a thermostat in. You are running a continuous loop without giving the water time to transfer its heat to the radiator core for cooling. I would try a 180 first and if that doesn't work go to a 195. A 160 might work but you have to remember that you...

    New Member in Seattle

Welcome from Ohio. It's great that you were able to find the car your parents had. I'm for sure it holds a lot of sentimental value to you.

    MuscleTang mod project thread (1971 M-Mach 1)

It a shame our rear ends don't have covers. You could use one from Trick Flow or Banks to help dissipate the heat. Going out in left field but it be kind of neat to figure a way to hook up a cooler to it.

Learn something new every day. I can see that with the extra forces of racing and hard cornering it could force it out the vent. That is one of those things you would never think about and then when it happens you wonder what is going on. Just like any other fluid, it's going to expand when...

Good Grief- You can adjust THAT!

Sorry to see you spent so much time and money for such a simple fix. Glad you got your engine running fine. We need to remember that there are two types of spark advance, mechanical and vacuum. Mechanical takes care of the first 32 to 36 degree and is based off of the engines rpm. The...

    429 Fan Shroud

Great find. The $500 seems a little steep but it is oem and they are hard to come by.

    429 Fan Shroud

I don't know if you called Crites yet but they are about $350 the last time they had them. Also if you didn't see my reply to Stanglover, the Summit shroud is for a 302, 351 and will not work on an 429 with ac.

Garage storage during the East Coast Winter questions?

+1 with all the above. I like to put mine up on a set of ramps and jack stands also so I can check the underneath over while it's sitting during the winter months.

    429 Fan Shroud

Summit's listing is incorrect - that's a standard 302/351 shroud. Yes - it will work on a 429 without ac. Also as mentioned, the fan will sit too deep in it. Attached is a picture of a 429/460 shroud. The part number is D0OE-8146-D. 429/460 Top looking down on 429/460 shroud.

    429 Fan Shroud

The difference is the depth of the shroud itself which a 351 shroud is almost 3" deeper. Also, the 429/460 uses a bigger fan blade.

Very nice looking pan. Do you plan on pulling the engine this winter or just raising it enough to get it on?

    429 Fan Shroud

As a side note, I have a 460 with a 351 shroud. Due to the fan sitting too far into the shroud it causes high engine temperatures during the summer. I have made a few modifications to help keep the temperature within a safe range, but I do plan on replacing it with a 429/460 shroud. The fan...
