It's the gas vapor canister connected to the vent line on your gas tank and goes to the air cleaner. It is missing the cap that goes on one of the bigger tubes. There is a video somewhere on here on how to rebuild them.

We have leased our vehicles of different makes for years. As far as I know most leasing companies will leave you extend your lease up to a total of 6 more months, one month at a time. You might want to check into it.
