    Rebuild Update

It's more likely that the weren't gapped properly and when they heated up they squeezed together at the joint. This could have been the catalyst for what happened to your rods.

1973 351 Cleveland 2V available, what would you do?

I just paid $300 for a short block and a set of heads. I am happier then heck. Engine was seized and was previously rebuilt so I just pulled it apart and sent it off to the shop to get cleaned and mag'd. Even though the block and heads are a 2V you can still build a monster engine. I just got...

    Fresh off the DYNO!

Thanks Will. And thanks again for showing me your 73 vert when I was down in Phoenix last week. That is one beautiful car brother. I love that blue!

    Fresh off the DYNO!

Here is the last pull he did from 4200 to 6000 rpm. I looked in my pack and the complete graph isn't there, he forgot to pack it up. I emailed and he said he would send it. This is with NO port matching or porting work completed of any kind on new heads and a new intake. Additionally, I will...

    Fresh off the DYNO!

The SEFI decision was not based solely on power. From most of the direct testing I have seen a guy wont gain much hp by just switching to fuel injection. What it gives you is an ever-increasing understanding of how you can tweak your power, fuel economy and dependability. EFI is always...

    Fresh off the DYNO!

Well after almost 2 full years at the mechanics shop, my 351C 2V rebuild is complete. Dyno'd out at 441 hp at 6000 rpm with a 750 CFM carb from the rebuilders shop. He said it was still gaining hp at 6000 but it was running a bit lean so he called it, I am switching the engine over to EFI so I...

    FMX to 4r70w swap

Makes no difference what engine it comes off of as long as it is an Essex bellhouse pattern (ask me how I know). Ford did a couple of upgrades in 2003-4 to this transmission they used behind the V6 in Mustangs that make it shift better and a bit more durable. The 70 in 4R70W is the torque rating...

    FMX to 4r70w swap

You could also go rip an EEC-V out of a 2003-4 Crown Vic and use that. Lots of guys around that can tune them to shift electronically.

    FMX to 4r70w swap

You can just take your 4R70W torque converter down to the tranny shop and get them to rebuild it with whatever stall you want in it. Whatever transmission you choose to pull, just make sure that the engine it is coming off of is an Essex bellhouse pattern.

    Time to restore

Well it's been 2 years since I pulled the motor and I am finally picking it up when I get back from Phoenix on Feb 9th. It turned out to be about the worst time possible to start a rebuild on a Cleveland with the lockdowns and parts shortages caused by Covid. The original plan was to keep the...

Did you have to roll the lips on the inner fenders?

    Old question, new day

Hey Steve, I would call Eaton and give them the info. They are the best at determining what you need and there will be no guessing involved as long as you know the weight of 5.0/AOD combo which you could get from a T-bird forum. The FMX is one heavy son-of-gun, especially with a 351 as original...

    Old question, new day

You could call them and let them what your ride height is, where you want it to go and what additional improvements you plan on making that could change ride height. I am not sure how long you have had your new springs in but they will eventually settle down a bit. It sounds like you have a...

    Old question, new day

Why not call Eaton and get them to make you springs that will fit your need. If you cut parts off your existing spring you are eliminating travel and your ride quality will suffer.

    Couple of 351C Questions

I agree, most rebuilds don't touch the balancer and if yours is old it is likely the culprit. Good idea to take the belts off for a few minutes while it is not hot to see if you can track it down. Could be a bad belt as well.

    New

Does your car have an original Gen 1 alternator or has it been upgraded? The dummy light is part of the wiring circuit and needs to either be used or a resistor put in its place.

Wow, thanks for this! A/C is + 100 pounds? Crap.

    MuscleTang mod project thread (1971 M-Mach 1)

I wonder if perhaps your heat issues aren’t coming from your brakes. The facts that you are super-heating your gear fluid so high could be breaking it down and not protecting your bearings. I have seen some cars in Motorsport add baffles to force air into the middle of disk brakes to help heat...
