Long Time coming 1973 Mach1 restomod

Absolutely amazing work so far. One thing that might help you is using a large scale rust removal technique. Look at Rust911. I saw a video online of a guy that set up a sprinkler system with water and Rust911 and it did all the rust removal for him. He was left to simply patch in and recoat...

Snape, Snape, Severus Snape (The Mysterious Ticking Noise)

If you don't have a stethoscope then just stick a piece of wood, like a hammer handle or broom handle up against your ear and touch along the top of the valve cover across the length of it. If the sound becomes louder or clear in one section, it is likely a lifter or a rod. You might get lucky...

    My 1973 project daily driver

I pretty much disagree with all of the rest of you. Stroking out the Cleveland to 408 is the best thing for the 4V heads, especially the closed chambers. If you want low end performance you just need some port stuffers from Price Motorsports. I know it seems counterintuitive to block off part of...

    What the heck is this??

Did you burn up a fan belt in the past? The first picture looks like fan belt debris. It likely was not cleaned during the rebuild, it doesn't really look new. The second picture with the gray looking coating looks like bad fuel. You might want to clean out your fuel line and tank. Use Rust911...

    Tremec to Automatic Swap

How did you make out on your hunt? Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier, I am putting a 4R70W in my '73 vert and have taken the long way around to figure it all out. The 70 in 4R70W means it is built for 700 NM of torque which equates to somewhere around 520 ft.lbs but not all 4R70W's are...

    Front suspension questions

If you want to get the most bang for your buck look at Global West Uppers MST-733 for caster with some eccentric lock outs for camber. This combination will give your car the ability to stick tires to the road if you want to get more aggressive cornering. After that I would look at how the car...

    Rebuild Update

Sigh, me too. Been waiting for 20 months now. Just got a call on Monday asking what colour to paint the block. All the parts are in so hopefully it’s all assembled next week and the dyno is done.

    351c Reputable engine builders

Yup a 393 stroker with intake and head work can do this with the solid tappets and a big lift. Build the engine as a system. It’s the only way to go. Plenty of folks chose to use a blower or turbo to hit 600+. You can do it no problem with a regular 3.5” stroke. If you plan on keeping your...

    351c Reputable engine builders

If you want my 2 cents, I would say you are on the right track if you are thinking get a crate engine now and restore your original later. Plenty of the 351C crate engines will put out over 500hp and you get the motor in your car now. I made the mistake of rebuilding mine starting in 2021 and...

Ebay ads stating cJ or Cobra Jet 351 in a 1973

Sorry I should have said with smaller valves. I am tearing one down right now and see tons of space around the perimeter of the valve surface. Man these 4V heads have MONSTER ports. I can't wait to get these rebuilt.

Wanting an Overdrive Gear for my 73 Mach 1

The bell housing pattern is known as Essex and Ford used this in auto's and standards. If you are looking for a really good automatic upgrade you can get a 4R70W from a 2003/4 Mustang V6. This is an electronic transmission and requires an electronic driver like the 'Quick 4' stand alone shifter...

Ebay ads stating cJ or Cobra Jet 351 in a 1973

The 351CJ underwent a name change to 351 4V in 1973. Same year it received the open chamber heads and smaller valves. It did however have a more aggressive cam and came with a 750cfm carb.

351CJ underwent a name change to 351 4V in 1973. Same year it was equipped with the smaller valves and open chamber heads.
