What did you do to your car today?

All I did was drive it to the hardware store twice. I bought the wrong replacement outside water valve the first time. I was a bit pissed at myself. In the end I got it done. There was a guy in the parking lot staring at my car on second trip. He said " Hey a Mach 1, you don't see too many of...

Off the shelf 3rd member that drops into our cars?

It is true. I am glad I hoarded a bunch new and used parts, especially NOS parts before the World went crazy.

Off the shelf 3rd member that drops into our cars?

Yes, I realize that. I was making about $600 a week working 2 jobs back then. Back when I was young and could actually manage working 2 jobs. That ship has sailed. Lol.

Off the shelf 3rd member that drops into our cars?

My have prices for a 9" center section risen. I bought a complete rebuilt open 9" 28 spline four pinion with a my original 2.75 ratio from Currie in 1997 for $475 with shipping. It is still in the car. I have my original unit with the "intent" of installing a 3.25 ratio. I am still undecided on...

    Leaking power steering gear box

I have used both the Edelman and Gates kits. I liked the Gates kit a little better. It is not hard to replace that seal. I did mine 10 years ago and still leak free. I keep an extra seal kit on the shelf. Among other things LOL.

    9 inch ratio - 3.25 or 3.55?

    That diff looks bad ***.

    9 inch ratio - 3.25 or 3.55?

I would personally not exceed 3.25 gears without overdrive. I do drive on the highway. I have 2.75 gears which are great for high speed cruising. I turn 2100 @60 with 235/60/15 BFGs. I had driven a 71 Boss 351 with stock 3.91s that a good friend of mine had me work on. I then realized what a...

    Oil dipstick o-ring or seal?

I think driving that hard you need a fancy sealed locking dipstick. I do think it is awesome that you are tracking your car. It sounds like a lot of fun and I am jealous. I don't think I have ever written "dipstick" this many times in my life. Lol. Ron

    Oil dipstick o-ring or seal?

Is your dipstick original? Is there a For p# on it? Mine is a DOAE-6750-A. Mine is pretty secure in the tube and has never popped out.

    Oil dipstick o-ring or seal?

Ok, I went into the basement and whipped out my dip-stick. As far as I can tell there never was an o-ring seal like you would find on a more modern car. The w-bend at the top of the dip-stick are what retains it in the tube. I have had the tube completely out a couple of times during rebuilds...

    Oil dipstick o-ring or seal?

I don't think there is a dip-stick seal. I have been pulling out that Cleveland dip-stick for over 40 years. ;) That sounded a bit profane now that I think about it. To be serious I don't think there is a seal.

Down the "more power is always better" rabbit hole?

Some advantages to our old cars is that we are not being tracked by GPS (unless we choose to be). No data recorders and many of us have not done a fuel injection conversion. That means in the event of an Electro magnetic pulse the old analog cars will most likely still function. I do get a lot...

    Need help, front end clunk

Most shops these days only know the "set the toe and go" method of alignments. That sucks they did a ****** job. I did alignments for a long time and knew all the methods (including shimming control arms to adjust camber and caster was always a PIA) and to be honest most modern cars IE: cars...

I also wanted to mention that I used a Moog strut rod bushing kit but this was at least 20 years ago. I had no issues installing it.

    Need help, front end clunk

The strut rod length is used to adjust the caster angle there should be a jam nut on the strut rod backing up the big washer and inner bushing and the outer nut should be a locking style nut. Shortening the rod increases caster angle to the positive. You should get an alignment when you get...
