    351c exhaust manifold questions

I have the factory exhaust manifolds. I looked to me like the ports on the headers were smaller than the ports on the manifolds. Things are tight enough to with power brakes, power steering, and 4 speed linkage.

Distributor gear roll pin. Need some expert guidance.

Steel Gear for the Distributor. The gear on my distributor attracts a magnet. Should I still order a "Steel" gear for my roller cam since the cast iron gears would draw a magnet too? kcmash

    Stalling cuts out instantly.

Frankly, I am learning to NOT trust the electronic ignition modules. I chased a gremlin on a pertonix 3 for over a year, switched back to new points and the car is reliable and runs good. Not sure the extra heat to the spark is wort the headache. I even remember back in the early 90's...

Trunk replacement without cutting it in pieces

It will not work. You have the inner wheel house and the structure to get around. Kcmash

What did you do to your car today?

I am confused on this. I just updated to a roller cam and everything says I MUST use a steel gear. When are you supposed to use a bronze gear over a steel?. And as a follow on, I took a magnet to my gear to verify it is steel. Is that ok to use on a new cam? Kcmash

Windshield wipers not working ,I' don't know what to troubleshoot

Make sure you are getting good ground. The motor grounds through one of the bolts and a grommet strap. If you do not have a good low resistance connection between chassis and wiper motor base it will not work. Kcmash

Heater hose fitting replacement, block side

With a dremmel and a grinding wheel, I put a slight chamfer on the leading edge of the replacement tube. I put some sealer around the leading edge too, Silicon gasket stuff. Got a socket that fit real loose over it so it went all the way into the socket. Rotated the engine on the stand so I...

351 C Engine rebuild. Not an expert, want some solid advice.

Ok, I measured for pushrods. I show that I need 8 inch long with the morel link bar lifters and Boss/Cleveland stamped rockers. That has the rocker in the center of the valve stem and 6.5 turns on the poly-locks. The flat tappet SVO cam used an 8.5 inch. Should I go ahead and order? Kcmash

Heater hose fitting replacement, block side

I am asking for a little help here. Does anyone have a sure fire method to press a new block side heater hose stub into the block? I got the 5/8 replacement from NAPA. The machine shop said use a socket and drive it in, it should be easy. But I am having some challenges getting it started...

351 C Engine rebuild. Not an expert, want some solid advice.

Thanks Hemikiller. That is the paperwork that came with my lifters. So I guess I will not soak. I did lube the exterior with oil and coated the roller surface with assembly lube. Hopefully I can get the replacement heater hose spud into the block this weekend and finish valve train assembly...

    Full restoration

Don’t throw anything away! Some of the little brackets under the hood, under the floors, and under the back seat are hard to find when you accidentally throw them out with the old sheet metal. Kcmash

351 C Engine rebuild. Not an expert, want some solid advice.

All the parts are finished and I am doing the assembly. Question of the day. Do I need to prime the hydraulic roller lifters or soak them or anything? I can not find any guidance from Morel, or Cam Research on this subject. These are roller, link bar lifters. I plan to fully prime the...

1971 Mustang 351c 2v Power Steering Pump Removal Replacement

I think I understand what you are asking. 1) I suggest removing the washer fluid reservoir first, so you have a lot more room. 2) Remove both lines from the back of the pump 3) Remove the small bolt that locks the belt tension and the long pivot bolt. 4) Remove the pump and the surrounding...

    Paint

I agree with using the flattener. It reduces glare aside from looking good, Kcmash

To EFI or Not EFI, that, and which one, is the question.

I had similar trials on my car.  When I dialed my vacuum advance in the improvement was incredible.  Better power, better idle, no backfiring.  It was incredible. That was with a Holley 670 Ultra, vacuum secondary, 4 speed.  I had bought a refurbished dizzy and assumed the vacuum advance would...

351 C Engine rebuild. Not an expert, want some solid advice.

What Lifters gave you problems.  Lykins sold me Morel Link Bar lifters, but I had to return as Cam Research says they will only sell cam and lifters together.  I ordered last week and Scott told me it would be 4 weeks but he would try to better that.   I don't know the camshaft supply chain...

351 C Engine rebuild. Not an expert, want some solid advice.

Thanks for the information and coaching!  Funny thing is I am trying Cam Research as they said they had roller blanks in stock and quoted me 4 weeks to get it done.  Everyone else said they were at the mercy of the supply chain with no forecast available.   Even Brent Lykins, (who I am fully...

    Removing wheel lip trim/moulding

Kinda confused on the direction this post went.  Originally it was stated he may want to roll the fenders.  Does that not crack the paint when you roll the wheel flares? i am not an MCA judge, but I don’t think the Mach 1 or the Boss came factory with those.  Sportsroof, verts, Grande, Coupé...

One thing after another—this car hates me!

Patience Grasshopper.  Happiness will follow your persistence. Seriously,  I often think the same thing.  After 20 yrs of restoring I have had all the crap too. 1) Power Steering - Had the box rebuilt twice since they put a seal in wrong the first time.  Blew a hose, caught the engine on fire...
