Hello from PA! Restoring a 73 Mach 1

Welcome from Arizona! I was born in Lancaster PA, and moved out in '82. Great cars you have there!!!

Original 2 spoke steering wheel components

I made a woodgrain insert for mine, by getting a decent quality woodgrain vinyl, disassembling the wheel insert, sticking some of the vinyl over the plastic, and making a template. Then removing that, sticking it to paper, cleaning that up and using it as a pattern to cut a fresh vinyl one that...

    $300 Oopp's today...

I have State Farm, classic car ins. (Although I used to have Hagerty, S.F. was the same price (cheap)). But my point was, that when I was dealing with a sketchy motor, and didn't know if, where or when it'd die, I could use their free flat-bed towing. Hagerty also has it. Heck, I also used my...

    My 1973 project daily driver

Got my '73 to Daily Driver status. The nice part is, that once it is semi reliable, you can finesse the crap out of it until you're really happy. (just make sure your Classic Insurance has flat-bed towing!)

What did you do today instead of working on your Mustang?

I cleaned and aligned the play/record heads in my 8-Track record/player and recorded three 8-Track tapes that I can play in my car. In case you're wondering, they're "Grand Funk Railroad" "The Doors" and "Iron Butterfly".

Just to keep things in perspective...

We were watching one of our fave old horror movies the other night from 1978, and they had shot of " One of those new Shopping Malls..." I couldn't help but notice (and remember) that even in 1978, almost ALL cars leaked oil, as illustrated by the frame-grab below. So, I guess if your car, like...

    Correct radio for '73 Convertible?

IMHO, Sheriff41 has it right. Leave it there, it looks great! I have a vintage AM/FM/8-Track, but i also did this... I put a decent amplifier under the package tray. Then I custom made a subwoofer box and put that in there too. I mounted high efficiency speakers in the usual places. I then ran...

New member just acquired 73 Mustang Grande

That is one beautiful car, there. I had a friend in the late 70s with one the same color, and black/white hound's-tooth vinyl top.(y)

Help with replacement of car radio and speakers

If you like the 70s vibe that these cars have (which I do!) I recommend doing what I did: I put a decent amplifier under the package tray. Then I custom made a subwoofer box and put that in there too. I mounted high efficiency speakers in the usual places. I then ran wires from the amp to a...

    My winter work....

Agreed. Beautiful ride! The black carpet and door lower carpet, mirror perfectly the black lower exterior color, and the black exterior stripe mirrors the red accents now in the interior. Nicely done!!!

Hello, from NYC. 73 Mach 1

I agree with Sheriff41. Before digging into anything like the carb, I'd take a look at something more simple. With the symptoms you are sighting, it sounds like it could be something as simple as too advanced or ******** timing. You might want to do yourself a favor and check that first.

    73 project (advice wanted)

MMoyer, there is a LOT of great advice and knowledge on this board. I bought my '73 H code , 9 years ago and I knew very little about it then. Mine was in a similar condition to yours; drivable, but a little jankey in certain ways. Just by reading threads on here I have been taken to school...

    Center console shifter section restoration

As an artist, I have used many "Chrome Markers" and many are indeed just silver paint. One I have used for exactly this purpose, on my '73 is this...

    New Ford F150 Ad with 7123 Mach1

Maybe it's just my eye, bit the Mach-1 on the trailer TOTALLY upstages the truck that's pulling it! The commercial makes the truck look like, just a tool to obtain the real prize.

    72 hardtop Hcode "Geraldine" Build

My H code 73 had a 2.75 rear-end gearset when I got it. I had it switched out for a nearly new 3.0 Ford gearset (really hard to find!!) and I had a Trac-loc limited slip put in. Man, does that make a difference! It handles with much more stability and much more "snap". The only down-side is that...
