    Setting caster

Thanks guys. Right, having set the camber to 1/2deg either side, I will be attempting to set the caster next week. I've got one of those small camber/caster magnetic gauges and a straight edge (that sits nicely just inside the lip of the wheel rim) and a set of home made 'turntables' to take the...

    Setting caster

Hi guys, got around to setting the camber today, so thought I'd check the caster, not done since I rebuilt the front end a little while back. Got one of those bubble gauge things which says to turn 1 wheel 20deg out, set bubble to zero, which I did, then turn wheel in 20deg (40 from turn out to...

    FMX Vacuum Modulator Adjust

Guys, I can't remember if you screw the little adjustment screw in the vacuum inlet, on the modulator, in or out to make my FMX box shift slightly later? Thanks.

    Strut rod help needed!

Thanks for the replies guys! HEMIKILLER, I have got a camber tool that you can place on the wheel hub, and I have plates to lock the setting in. I have set camber to 1/2 a degree neg, so quite happy with that. I did have a go at setting the castor myself with the aid of a small plumb-bob and a...

    Strut rod help needed!

Hi all! Wondered if someone, who knows their castor is set properly, could tell me the measurement from the face of the big nut to the end of the strut, under bumper side not engine bay! I know all struts are not identical in length, but It's just to get me in the right ball park for the ride to...

    Brake booster/servo hose length

Thanks for the replies guys. Didn't know it ran over the shock tower brace! Mine just had a length of vacuum pipe straight from servo to inlet on back of the edelbrock carb fitted when I bought it. Was just going to replace with the proper 11/32" hose.

Hi all. Could someone please tell me the correct length of the brake servo/booster hose on a 1971 Mach 1? Thanks in advance!

    Help needed with more problems!!

Great write-ups guys! Have changed in line petrol filter and changed oil and filter (VR1 20w/50 and Motorcraft filter). Can't refill with petrol till Saturday to check if all is ok yet, but fingers are crossed and prayers will be muttered till then 😇

    Help needed with more problems!!

Thanks guys, but pretty convinced now I put diesel in. Smells/feels like diesel. Just spent the morning draining as much of the system as possible, luckily I had only put 5 litres in, and it still had a little petrol in as well. Will use some sea foam when I refill, hopefully it will help clean...

    Help needed with more problems!!

Guys, thanks for the replies, but, is it possible I put a can of diesel in..........it was late and I was thinking of getting home after a long day?

    Help needed with more problems!!

Arggh After getting the mach1 back on the road after sitting for a good few years, with the occasional start up, every thing was good, running well, idling good, good vacuum. Drove last Saturday to Mill Hill, then on to Borehamwood, then home, no problems. Put £25 petrol in on way home, Sunday...

    Edelbrock carb/throttle connection 71 351c

Thanks for the reply/advice, I will check it out Saturday morning.

    Edelbrock carb/throttle connection 71 351c

Hi all. Had a Edelbrock carb and manifold for a good few years now, on the 351c 2v. When connecting the throttle linkage, original cable, 'ball type' push on thingy, it's always looked like the cable was too long, and always had a curved bit between the firewall bracket and the cable bracket (on...

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

Thanks Boilermaster, very informative advice. You're right, not done this before, only with the heads off. Am usually pretty confident at most jobs I encounter, but will have a think about this one, and possibly pull the heads......! Thanks again for the write up.

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

Thanks guys, will pull rocker covers and/or oil pan to check for pieces. Is it possible to change the valve stem seals without pulling the heads?

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

OK guys, I will check with a mechanical gauge before any thing else...

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

Hi. At idle when hot, the needle on the original dash oil gauge is literaly at lowest point on gauge. If I idle it out of gear, about 950rpm, pressure picks up slightly, maybe an 1/8th inch from lower mark on gauge.

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

HK, thanks for the advice/heads up, makes sense it may be a pushrod.

    Hydraulic lifters/pushrods

My '71 Mach 1 (351c 2v) was parked up for nearly 8 years, although I regularly started it and ran it for 5/10 mins, just to keep the internals coated in oil, also changed the oil filter once a year. Now it's back on the road, it's not running 100%. Got a little puff of smoke from the left hand...
