+1.  Mine's still keeping excellent time 6 months after installing it and no more flat batteries!

    Ignition switch wired wrong?

Thanks John, did some looking and seems like you're correct about fitment issues with HEI units.  I have a full ram air setup including air cleaner and base so probably better off sticking with the original.  There is already a Pertronix module fitted so I'll leave well enough alone.

    Ignition switch wired wrong?

So the car is back from having the C6 auto overhauled (no more leaks!) and I've had a chance to look under the dash.  Turns out the ignition wire from the plug connecting to the ignition switch had broken and the previous owner decided that rather than repair it, took the accessory wire and...

    Ignition switch wired wrong?

No, at the moment I'm being careful not to use the accessory key position to avoid potential damage to the coil and/or flattening the battery. Would be nice to get it sorted out so I don't have to do this, and from the posts so far and the wiring diagrams it seems most likely either someone has...

    Ignition switch wired wrong?

Thanks for confirming.  Distributor is a stock type with a Pertronix Ignitor 1 module and matching Flamethrower coil.  Voltage at the positive terminal of the coil is 6 to 7V and the car runs OK.    It's looking to me very much like a previous owner has mis-wired the ignition switch at some...

    Ignition switch wired wrong?

Hi all, my '71 M code Mach 1 has a Flamethrower coil that needs an external resistor, so it's hooked up to the standard ignition wire (or so I think) which supplies around 6V - all good there.  However I've noticed that this wire is 'hot' with the key in the accessory position as well, which I...

    Alternative clock movement

Hi Bob, I know I'm late to the party here but is there any chance the 7173 discount is still a thing on these clocks? If it helps I am a repeat customer on your mini-tachs.

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Started on the passenger side today and sure enough, broke some more of the clips which look like this: Any idea if they are an OEM part and where I might be able to get some?

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Simliar to those but not exactly the same.  These ones are purely rectangular with little indents in the outer edges to sit snugly in the channel on the back side of the trim.  When I do the passenger side I'll try to pull one out and post a pic. I damaged a few and would like to get some...

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Thanks!  For anyone interested, the decor trim piece that runs along the door was attached by what I assume are the factory mounting studs (small flat head nail type protrusions) along the length of the door.  On the inside of the trim piece were some keyhole moveable plastic mounting tabs that...

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Well the driver's side is now complete:  door aligned and gaps done, side tape stripes installed, decor trim lined up as best I can and lower panels beneath the trim repainted back to their original black. Now for the passenger side...

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Yup - will do. Doors are now aligned and the trim on the passenger side isn't too bad but driver side is pretty wonky.

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Hi David, many thanks for your comprehensive reply - you've confirmed what I had hoped wouldn't be the case, but sort of suspected would be. I know my car has had at least one (not so great) repaint during its life and where it is flaking/chipping along the lower flanks I can indeed see black...

    Lower side stainless trim attachment

Hi All, Finally getting around to aligning the doors and fenders on my '71 Mach 1 but have run into an issue.  Got the doors trued up but the stainless trim pieces that run along the lower flanks of the car do not.  Obviously the last person to tinker with them did so without aligning the...

    Anyone running magnaflow Mufflers

This is no doubt true but I've owned 3 different model year/engine/exhaust configuration Mustangs with FlowMaster 40s and they all had a signature bad drone between 2000-2500 rpm.

    'Normal' operating temps

Thanks Mike.  Looking for actual block/rad temp numbers so I can compare when I get hold of an IR gun. Did some quick checks on the sender yesterday and it seems to be reading a little low in terms of resistance.  Put an extra 6 ohm resistor in series with it which has shifted the gauge reading...

    'Normal' operating temps

Thanks guys.  I will double check the readings but I suspect the fan controller readout will prove to be more accurate (matched sensor and gauge vs. old factory gauge, wiring and who knows what temp sender unit). I read on another forum that these cars were originally specced with 192F...

    Anyone running magnaflow Mufflers

Sorry to be coming in on this discussion late in the day, but if you're still looking I can confirm Magnaflows will still give you 90% of the FM sound at idle with zero drone at higher RPM.  I have done the FM ->Magnaflow conversion on three different Mustangs now with no regrets. Another...

    'Normal' operating temps

Hi all, Just completed the conversion to an electric fan setup on my '71 M code.  As part of the installation I now have a digital temperature readout from the fan controller and noticed the temp gauge in the car seems to read high, or at least higher than my previous '68-'69 Mustangs.  For...

    Diff yoke specs

Thanks for that info.  My 1971 351 4V running into a C6 transmission still has the factory 3.00 open diff gears, so if I understand your summary correctly I should have the smaller yoke with the 1310 U-joint. Unfortunately I don't have access to the car at the moment to check the diff code, but...
