UPDATE on the original information in my post: The 1973 Mach 1 Mustang that I'm searching for was purchased by him in August (we think) 1977. He purchased the car in Mt. Airy, NC in 1977. He sold the car in either 1986 or 1987 in Virginia Beach, VA.
