That's true but someone told me that you can install the guts out of the factory one in to the repops, is that true?

Got up early and there wasn't anything I could do without waking the family, (attached garage) So I decided to try and restore my fuel door to see if it was salvageable. View attachment 69208 View attachment 69209

It turned out pretty nice the chrome has some scratches and on the release button is pitted but overall decent condition for 50 years old.

I like before and after shots it makes me feel like I accomplished something. Once the paint cures it will be time to pack it away until the car is painted.
From an angle if you squint your eyes a bit it looks pretty good LOL

The engine is back and in my garage now just waiting on the torque converter to show up and try to coordinate some help from my sons and we can install.

I stripped the gray paint someone previously painted it with and then cleaned and polished the chrome and then prepped for paint and masked the rivets and cap and painted with silver argent wheel paint from Eastwood. IMO, that was the closest match to the correct color.

That could work, there are holes that could be used for screws/rivets

I got some loose ends taken care of over the weekend on the engine and in the engine compartment getting ready to drop in the engine. I have the torques converter ordered and should be here this week hopefully. I am looking forward to getting this in there.

I got over to the body shop this morning for a little while and block sanded the doors and re-primered with the hi-build primer now one more block sanding and the doors will be ready for paint.



Got home this afternoon and painted the taillight bezels, they turned out okay but the bright work is pretty scratched up. I polished the lenses and the aluminum trim, but I will probably will need new lens and bezel assemblies eventually. These will be fine until I upgrade to LED panels down the road. I will need to order new seals though, the old ones were shot.

So I haven't been getting much of anything done on the car recently too busy with other things to get to body work, and the engine install is still paused waiting for the torque converter to show up. I did have a couple of hours yesterday, so I block sanded the doors but didn't have time to spray primer on them. I worked on the fenders a little they are about ready for a coat of hi-build to start the block sanding process. I also drilled out the holes in the doors for the wiring conduit and cut the holes for the speakers. This way all the cutting/drilling is done before I apply my final coat of primer. My car did not have power windows or door speakers and I am adding door speakers so I found some rubber conduits on eBay and drilled the holes for them now. This should make it so I can run my speaker wires safely when I reassemble the car.
I did both doors but only took pictures of the second door. I wish I had more time yesterday, it would have been nice if I could have gotten the doors re-primed and a coat of primer on the fenders.

Thanks! The headers are Sanderson block huggers. I got the recommendation from some people on the forum here. I was originally looking to do manifolds but wasn't having much luck finding the right ones. I didn't want long tube headers for ground clearance issues, so these seemed like the right answer for what I was trying to achieve.

I got something done today, while I'm waiting for my torque converter to show up. My shackle kits finally came off back order and showed up yesterday on UPS, so I installed my new rear leaf springs. Now the front and rear suspensions are completely done.

I also installed my rear valence temporarily, so that when the engine is installed I can send the car to the exhaust shop and they can line the exhaust tips up with the cutouts.



At lease I feel like something got done this weekend.

Still waiting for Aeromotive to get the tank in they will use to build my Stealth tank with internal fuel pump for the Sniper EFI system I plan to run on my engine. They said it should be in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, I have a big empty space in the back, just waiting for a fuel tank.
