I have owned this car since 1986, been sitting and rotting for the last 30 years, time for my restoration project to begin, since I’m almost done putting 3 kids thru college
Should the lower black stipe match the black stripe on the hood of a 72 Mach-1?

The blackout paint is the same paint color. But the lower stripe is actually a decal stripe applied over the paint stripe. the current kit sold by National Parts Depot requires 2 kits to do the whole car. The lower stripe kit is not included with the hockey stick stripe kit. There is discussion of this in more detail in my build thread.

My all time favorite vehicle is our 1969 Shelby GT500
We used PPG Hot Rod Black Matte for all painted black surfaces. The side and rear trunk stripes were done using Graphics Express 1973 Mach 1 stripe kit. For the hood scoop Call Our character we used Graphics Express paint stencil, so the Sunset Orange color coat peeks through the blackout paint on the hood, which really looks sharp.

For the Sunset Orange color we used PPG Sunset Orange, which is a translucent, fine particle metallic shot over a base white for the Candy color effect. Every coat of primer, white, color, and clear was blocked and wet sanded before any subsequent coat was applied. We think it turned our fantastic. It is hard to tell a difference between the vinyl stripes and painted black surfaces.
