Not really, but it allows the hardener to be better distributed, and if you "smear" the mix together it helps air bubbles to me minimized.I would have never thought about mixing it on a sheet. Does that also stop it from hardening so fast ?
Stirring will only cause bubbles in the bondo.
I will also afford you that little bit of extra working time since the "smear" method doesn't take as long to mix through.
ps. Tip: don't go overboard with the volume of hardener. Finding "hardener zen" comes with practice...
