i am working on my 71, stripping the old padding off the rear wheel wells so I can clean up rust and paint.
I thought this was just padding glue, then I found bent metal mixed in seam sealer, no it’s tears and holes in the metal. It’s solid metal, not a rust hole. I can see the rear tire through it…

What would do that? A blown tire?

Tire picked up something in the road and threw it through the wheel house. A buddy had a similar thing happen with his Dodge dually and a chunk of leaf spring.

Back in the 70's I saw some (more than once) interesting damage done by winter studs flying off tires at highway speeds....kinda like someone peppering the wheel wells with .22 rifle shots.
