Boss1Ray, are saying 1971 Boss 351's did not come with the urethane bumper?

From the one photo I was "suspect" it may be a Mach1 cloned into a Boss, I believe only the Mach1 came with the urethane bumper in 71? The add also says those are the original wheels, those look to be at least 16's or 17's which wouldn't have been original.

After posting this I did a google on the front bumper for the 71 Boss, it did come standard with the chrome bumper but Hemmings says it could be special ordered with a body colored urethane bumper.

Yes. That is what I am saying. From what I know to date...

Even more suspect as I don't trust Hemmings too much. It would be a very odd Boss 351 but there are a few strange ones - like Bob Perkins' car that had the Mach 1 hood treatment. It was documented and I believe a very low-milage car. I think he sold it a few years back.

The wrong text on the hood would be due to a repaint or maybe the original "Ram Air" was re-applied and someone just got lazy. (attention to detail is very important to me!!)

Urethane bumper, misplaced Boss 351 decals, Magnum 500s, tells me the seller of this Mach 1 wants us to believe it's a Boss 351... and not just a clone.

Appraisal for $60,000. Yeah... right.

BTW - those are 15" Magnums... just with some almost too wide 60-series tires.

$60,000 appraisal, but what is someone willing to pay for the car is the real value.

unless he shows documentation with proof its a Boss with all of the above pointed out (bumpers, wheels, decals) its not a real-world $60K car.

I emailed for more pics. I know of a legit Boss 351 in my area that they put the decals on wrong after a repaint. They stacked Boss over 351 instead of beside it. LMAO

Here is the reply to my questions for the seller:

I have a lot of other pictures posted here if you want to check them out. http://s112.photobucket.com/user/jsledder/library/Boss

We’ve had a few people ask about that front bumper, the guy who appraised it (Jerry at Telstar Motors in Mitchell SD) said it was available on the 71 boss’s as well as the Mach’s.

Feel free to call anytime with questions or to arrange a time to look at it. I just had the carburetor cleaned and rebuilt and the car runs good.

Thanks

It's a good-lookin' car - no doubt there. Seems to be a legit Boss 351 as well... hard to argue with the VIN sticker on the door and the engine. But the urethane bumper still seems out of place on it. (Hey, if you can find an original urethane bumper in that great of shape, why not?)

Regardless of some possible added options, the overall condition and misplacement of the Boss 351 fender stickers (obviously, after a repaint - notice the poor masking job around the door sticker) - it still says, "Not a $60,000 car," to me.

Were I potential buyer, I'd be in for $20-25K. If the seller had only been willing to pony up a couple/three hundred for a professional detail job, I'd consider up to $30K - not a dime more, though.

That's just my "low information opinion." ;) :D

Had a follow email that they said their Uncle was the original owner and as far as they knew it came from the factory with the urethane bumper.

Kenny,

Please direct your correspondence to my brother who actually has the car in his possession. This car was bought by my uncle right from the factory and has been in the family since.

The only thing that has been in question on the car is indeed that bumper.
