"My World is Fire and Blood"
With my recent transmission problems i decided the best course of action was to find a C-6 Master rebuild kit.
in researching c-6 Master Kits Scott drake C8ZZ-7005-MK and 7ZZ-7005-MK come up.
on the surface they seem like good kits.
The first place i ordered from stated they had the kit in stock. I ordered it only to find out it was back ordered. I cancelled that first order and went with a second distributor. about a week later C8ZZ-7005-MK showed up.
the box was nice seemed to have all the seals and ring seals and the clutch packs steels etc. the box presented well and it took me 2 more weeks before i started to get into the box.
Problem #1 there is Zero literature with the kit, there is no parts manifest for you to compare against to. Nothing is labeled or marked at all.
Some paper work included with the kit was advertizing for stuff not even included with the kit. recommended kits that you could purchase in addition to this one.
Problem #2 whom ever designed this kit did not make it specific for 1968-1973 transmissions they just tossed in what ever was labeled for a C-6 and called it done. There are seals not even designed for a C-6 included with the kit. there are seals from different year C-6 transmissions that you will never used. So if you try and follow along with replacement seals you are left with tons of extra seals which question your sanity as to whether or not you even got the right seal to begin with. Many of the seals are similar and nothing is marked so you take your best guess with this kit and pray to god you guessed correctly.
Problem #3 The clutch packs inside the kit for the Forward clutch is not correct for pre 1976 transmissions. Somebody has seemed to mix up what clutches go to which transmission. they gave basically double the reverse high clutch packs and then another set of the same packs but with different colored teeth. Even worse none of it appears to be good.
The packs appear to be the wrong thickness so my reverse high clutch is Barely in spec when completed, and i cannot even assemble the forward clutch because the kit supplied the wrong type of clutches.
the low reverse clutches supplied with the kit were the only ones that appeared correct during assembly.
So you basically paid good money for a trusted kit from a known restoration company specific for year and you ended up with a non-specific year rebuild kit with questionable/incorrect parts.
nothing has been missing from this kit as far as i can tell but it is a kit more destined as a late 1980s rebuild kit for C-6 transmissions.
I now have to figure out where to find these clutch packs and set my progress back weeks.
there are more expensive general C-6 master kits that might be worth going after but this kit from scott drake C8ZZ-7005-MK i do not recommend.
