Howdy,

I purchased the left and right hand side cowl to rear apron support braces due to the no reproduction of these parts, not rusted through, and a good thing to have in the future. So, while I was working on my 73 coupe, I started to look at the cross section of the cowl area. The cross section provides a look into how the factory assembled the parts. As you can see, the factory applied two beads of sealant to the inner and outer top hat. But, wait, what is the green stuff? It looks like some type of rust /corrosion proof protection. I was really surprised by this. I did not think Ford applied any type of protection in that area.

What do you think?

They used a thick sealant / paint?

It looses adhesion and then holds moisture

Just like the seam sealer they used with no primer under it:mad:

Question, where did you get those left and right hand side cowl to rear apron support braces? I was thinking of welding up what's left of mine but if I could find whole ones it would make my life a lot easier. Much thanks!

Rich

The green paint is on my rotted cowl hat as well. Didn't do it any good.
