I was kinda forced into a roof/rear deck paint modification.

Not ready to paint the entire car right now and the vinyl top was long gone.

Roof and trunk had damage that needed to be repaired.

So I went with a blacktop option in the interim.

I am going to install the rear window chrome again.

What do you think?  Is this sacrilege in the Grande world?

I'd bring the black further out onto the front fenders and add a black pinstripe around it and around the trunk black. Round off the corners, no square corners. Paint the scoops black and probably black out the roof trim.

@Mikesro I have a Grandé and always hated the vinyl roof with its too squarish trim not fitting the body lines, I've totally removed it. I love 71-73 for their line and the purest you keep it the better. Not to mention it was on mine a rust nest underneath.

I like the color combo that you have, but as other said, it's not balanced. Scoops also black or hood yellow would be more elegant I think. And I would stop the black on top of deck lid as seen from behind the little extra black is bit weird as not present on extensions.

Nice to see another Grandé being taken care of!

To me, the thing that makes a Grandé stand out from a standard coupe, is the vinyl roof. No vinyl roof? It’s not a Grandé (to me). The disadvantage of the vinyl roof I find, is that it makes the top of the rear incredibly boring. That’s why, when the time comes to paint mine, I will put rally stripes on the hood and the rear.

All that being said, it is your car and it has to look awesome to you :)

I myself like the looks of the vinyl roof on them originally.
The dark roof on the metallic cars looks nice.

Wouldn't be hard to put a new vinyl top on the car except for accessing the trim hardware.

As an interim solution, I like it. Reminds me of the 69-70 Marauder X-100

Agree that a little black pinstripe on the rear end would give it a more finished look and with painting the scoops.
The X100 was a cool looking boat.... A personal battlecruiser!

Maybe add a honeycomb panel in place of the Grande camera case panel.

And switch tailights to the ones that had the black details.

And a pop-open gas cap.And...

I like the look without the vinyl top. It stops and starts in awkward places that don’t follow the lines of the car. That said, I like the two tone idea and it might be cool to make the entire top of the car black and bring the black down a little farther on the sides, maybe an inch or two to follow a nice line from back to front. But really, you should do exactly what you like. Smiling when you walk up to your car and having to take a second look at it when you walk away is the best.
