Hi Group,

After having the dash apart a couple times each time something else breaks well, now it's the gas gauge.

First off took out dash because dim lights, then lost the speedo and if was acting pretty off seem way slower then it should be. So I placed in a VDO need to calibrate the GPS still. During the removal the dash circuit which was in poor shape tore enough so I replaced in with NPD new with Tach circuit.

Next put it together and lost gas gauge, took apart and found the 9 volt clip was not on. I placed it on and taped around just in case.

Most important before I added the dash circuit the gas gauge screw the brass nut would not screw back on, acted like it was striped. Removed check it out open the gauge up and when I put it all back together the brass nut tighten.

I am pretty sure when the screw was turning with the nut it broke a connection and my guess why the gauge failed. The gauge was off a 1/4 of a tank also.

Is there way to repair the gauge or even to replace with an after market. With the dash circuit the way it is I am concerned on finding the correct 73 gas gauge. I been looking and nothing.

May have to bite the bullet and relocate newer type gauge? Wonder what Ohm the factory gauge works on.

Sorry for the long story.

Thanks again for any advice.

Larry

Do you want to buy an original used gas guage for the dash cluster?

I have a couple

do they have the 9 volt clips on the back, if so that would be great if you could shoot me a price as long as they work. I am sure when the screw just kept turning i must have broke connection. Thought about checking it out if it could be re-soldered or some how connected.

Any idea what ohms all this is.

Thanks,

Larry

Yes I see that, for me I was lucky to have a auto electrician 40 yrs as a Brother in law. When I had the motor out we replaced some bad wires in the harness. He is back in Michigan and I am in WV now,,, to bad this did not happen two weeks ago when I had the Mach 1 up there for a cruise weekend.

I am 100% sure the brass nut spinning around with the screw broke the connection at the gauge. They seem impossible to find, I even check the Ohio Mustang site and seen nothing for a 1973. Might have to call

Thanks

Might have to call Brother in law Bill Ritchie's Auto Electric he wires from scratch complete cars, he is very well known as Detroit's best auto guy.

Just wanted you to know Don the gas gauge works, I just replaced a lot of things like Weather stripping and some other odds and ends and was just so happy to get a good working Gas gauge again.

Can't thank you enough, keep up the good work :bravo::bravo:
