Droopy Sun Visors

Wondering if anyone has had the issue of their sun visors not staying up. Mine keep dropping down every few minutes and I spend more time fighting with them then seeing where the hell I'm driving. I have tried to tighten the rods by mashing them a little, but nothing seems to work. I have tried using some tape on the ends to tighten up where they clip in at but no luck there either. Was thinking about using Velcro but hate to have to stick it to the headliner. Any help would be appreciated.

I am new to Mustangs so I don't know if Ford offered a similar solution, but GM offered a bushing/sleeve that went into the visor and then you stuck the support in. I'm not sure if it will work with the Mustang visors but it is a variation of the same concept. You can buy them from NPD for a Chevelle and give it a try, they solved that specific problem for me on my Chevelle, I know how annoying it is.

Thanks for the info. I had looked previously for something similar on both npd and cjpony site. After I read your reply I went back and checked under Chevelle and all the other makes but nothing is listed. They evidently have done away with them.

Don't know what color your interior is, but I have some ginger color sun visors available that are tight, not droopy. Not sure if they can be died another color, but members on this site probably would know.

It's been a while since I've torn one apart but I believe ours are a friction fit. The steel slot the visor rod fits in may need to be squeezed together some to restore the friction.

You are correct and that's what I have tried several times. Problem is it only works for a while and they become loose again. I'll probably try the bushing kit tpj posted above.

On my Convertible I had the same issue with the driver side visor. I grabbed some locking pliers and wrapped the visor in a rag and squeezed the visor carefully...and Voila, visor has been staying up ever since!

Many years ago, with my 69 Mustang in high school (early 70s) I found there was a screw on the visors that was located near the metal rod that mounted to the swivel hinge for the visors (aka: visor mounting pin). The screw is not visible unless you put the visor down, hence easy to overlook. I tightened that chrome plated screw and it stopped the drooping visor problem. I will try to get a photo of where that screw is located. If I find a photo or drawing I will add a reply to this response.

Attached/embedded is a drawing of the visor with an annotation showing where the chrome screw is that I tightened to stop the visor from drooping. If you can't get the screw tightened enough to accomplish the result you are after you can push some filler material into the inside of the opening in the visor so the screw I mentioned can help get a better bite.

I have had the visors off the rods and I didn't see any screws anywhere when I did. These are from cj pony and I'm wondering if they are made different than the factory ones. These just hold in place by friction but regardless of how far or how much of the inner sleeve I compress down, once you force it back on the rod, it works loose in a short period of time. I have order the bushing kit that tpj mentioned. I not holding breath that they will work but at this point I'm willing to give them a try. I thinking if they don't work then I'll make some kind of clip or torsion spring to hold them in place that will come off easy so I can pull them down when needed.

Well, I got back around to my sun visors today. After a thorough exam of the rod pocket on the visor, I discover that the metal pocket only extends about 1.5 inches in from the end on each side of the visor. Beyond that is seems to be just cardboard tubing for the rod to slid in. This explains why I have been unable to get them to tighten up - all I have been doing is compressing the cardboard and not the metal.

I don't believe these are supposed to be this way and am wondering if someone at the factory screwed up. I clamped the end down with the metal in it some today and they are staying up for now but I feel it won't last too long due to the short area of friction. I've had these too long to try to return them, but I do plan on calling cj pony tomorrow to see if they know anything about these and any quick fixes.

Good luck getting a response from them, as we know they do not possess any skills customer or otherwise! Either they talk around the part, not about the part, or they'll say that their "Parts specialist manager" isn't available and will call back as soon as he gets in LOL!!!

I've been down that road with them on my complete interior kit . The web site said the door panels were TMI but instead they shipped Dash Direct which fit like crap - had to make a lot of modifications to get them to work and look good. I didn't realize the swapped until I was ready to install them which was several years later after I bought the kit. After several phone calls and emails I got nowhere. I even offered to pay shipping back and the difference in price for the TMI's but it was a no go. These visors are also part of that kit and they are suppose to be TMI. I still plan on calling them today to see what they say just for giggles.
