Exhaust items

Hey guys,

Just curious what a couple of items may be on my exhaust manifolds. Both sides have what seems to just be a very thin plate around the spark plugs and appears to maybe be secured by the manifold bolts possibly.

The 2nd item is blue in the photo and is only on the passenger side and is possibly a heat shield maybe???

Those are heat shields for the plugs and the heat stove for the air cleaner. The heat stove for the air cleaner, the blue part you see there, would originally been connected to the original air cleaner by a piece of tubing. It is there to help with cold starts, especially in colder climates, it would funnel hot air to the carburetor.

If you're not using the original air cleaner base, then they likely serve no purpose and can be removed. They cut your fingers when changing plugs, too. : )

You can certainly remove them. Any car that has had headers installed would have to remove them, and there are a tons of cars out there with headers, including mine
Now having said that do not discard them, they are worth quite a bit of money to people doing restorations. Here is a set on eBay, $175 shipped:
