Looking for a suggestion on an exhaust system. 351c 2v. Would like to keep the existing stock manifolds. The exhaust that is there is dual but both tail pipes are missing, the mufflers look pretty beat up and there is no H-Pipe. Any suggestions on a good manifold back system that wont break the bank?

I have the Turbo muffler kit, I installed it about 10 yrs ago and it sounds and preforms very good, I have no complaints.

I hope this helps

If you are keeping the stock manifolds I think a reproduction, stock-style system from one of the vendors here would be a good option.

In looking at what is available, anyone swap out the stock manifolds with headers on the 351c 2v? Can it be done without pulling the motor? It looks like it will be a pain to get at the manifold bolts.

You can install headers without removing the engine. They get inserted from under the car. Having really tall jack stands helps. I have found that an engine hoist hooked to a lift plate mounted to the manifold allowed me to remove the driver side motor mounts and lift just enough to make the job easy.

For a tip about reaching the mounting bolts on header equipped cars, you can reach under the tubes from the front and get to all of the lower bolts fairly easily.

Just a word of caution. Taking the old manifolds off can sometimes be a bit of a chore, especially if they have never been removed before.

I'd always recommend a stock reproduction type exhaust, simply because they fit and will not drag under your car. And the look way better that the classic twin tubes that simply hang under the car.

Maybe use different mufflers for sound reasons.

If you're gonna put on long tube headers I don't know if you can adapt a stock repro easily because the outlets of the headers will probably be far off. Depends on the type of headers.

Just from experience let me tell you that long tube headers make more noise and will often reduce ground clearance. I got sick of mine scraping on the floor going over speed bumps or entering a parking ramp etc.

Anyone ever deal with Precision Exhaust? precisionexhaust.com. I spoke with the guy, Dave there on the phone really nice and very knowledgeable. Shot me a pretty good price on a complete system from manifold back with turbo mufflers. 2 1/4 aluminized 14 ga pipe. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them before I order.

I used the heartthrob exhaust but I have headers. It worked out well but it was a pain. The passenger side tailpipe was not bent correctly. They would not replace it so I had to cut it and weld it. As to putting headers in, the passenger side is cake. The driver side required me to rock the motor with an engine lift. But I have a manual transmission with a z bar.

I just had Flow master 40 series put on my 73 with 351 C 2 V, it sounds really good. About everyone who hears it thinks its some built up engine, but it is a totally stock original engine.

Yeah, the drivers side can be a pita. I didn't notice till my rebuild but I had Hookers installed in 74 and the shop actually cut part of the engine mount when they installed it to get them in. I replaced both mounts during my rebuild but had quite the time getting the headers on.

+1 Mike from Luxembourg (2 586,4 km2). Always taking care about speed bumps and or parking ramps or...

It's why I want to keep original exaust manifold on the Mach 1, so much welding jobs done on the Grandé long exaust by Hooker.

I wound up using the Hooker headers and flowmaster pipes due to clutch clearance. Then installed hydraulic clutch. That worked out well.
