I think the expansion valve of our ac system is not to be wrapped with the tape that other years use, is that correct? I just want to do all I can to make sure I am getting as much cooling efficiency that I can.

I had an insulated cover on the sensing the bulb (dome on top of the expansion valve) on my 73 Mach 1 when I bought it in 1978. No other insulation. I kept the insulating cover and reused it on a new expansion valve when I did a full restoration. I also parted out a 73 Mach 1 in the middle 1980s and it had the same insulation cap on the bulb, kept that one also. New expansion valves I have seen and bought, don't come with the insulation cap.
