Heater core with A/C replacement

I took my out. Had to split it to get it out. That didnt hurt anything. so you should be ok do it that way. Now i am haveing probs get it back. Language probs. What is the flapper?
 
Sorry I had a dual post on this topic.
The flapper is the air diverter right above the heater core. The rod is supposed to slide out. See attached pictures.

Thought you meant the whole heater core. I took that flapper out without probs as i remember it. Just dont remember how. Did you fix your problem? I might be able to test again since my heatercore is out if you need me to ?

Thank you for offering to look, but I got it out and have everything reassembled and back in the car. Wasn’t too bad to do, other than needing a second hand to put the nuts back on on the firewall.
