There is a fill hole. The bolt in this hole doesn't even fit tight. Going to weld it shut. Lot's of things on this car makes me scratch my head.Perhaps a very early (57-59, I think) carrier was used at one time, they didn't have fill plug on the carrier. Do you have a fill plug on the carrier? Chuck
I see you're back on form!Hmmm...the usual name for a hole in a rear end is an "asshole".
It could have been a real go fast guy wanting extra diff ventilation?Any idea why someone would drill a hole in the rear end???
Getting there. Been online all this time, though...I see you're back on form!
I take it you had your op and have recovered.
That's great to learn.Getting there. Been online all this time, though...
more than likely to fill the rear end, some earlier cases didn't have fill plugs and the fill hole was in the housing. That isn't even a plug it looks more like a ring gear or flywheel bolt. make sure your carrier has a fill plug before welding this or you won't be able to add oil.Any idea why someone would drill a hole in the rear end???
It's just a bolt. A fairly long one at that. It does have a fill hole. I plan on breaking it all down and checking everything. Rodger that on the “go fasters”!Drag racers used to put bolts into the housing to prevent gear/differential deflection on hard launches.
Interesting. I bet that's what it is. It was definitely set up as a go fast at some point.Drag racers used to put bolts into the housing to prevent gear/differential deflection on hard launches.
