It seems that a few from this group are planning on driving the HRPT this year. It will be nice if we can get together a few times during the tour and maybe park together for a picture. Also I think there is a Mustang museum close to the route that we could plan on attending together. Please respond here so we can know who is going but also please send me a PM with your cell number. I can then send a group text so we can keep in touch.

Looks like I can only do Nashville and maybe Alabama sections of tour . I need to get in the garage to try and get the ol girl repaired ASAP. Wish me luck
 
We will be going through a heat wave so the temperatures will be in the upper 90s. This will be a good test for the cooling system and A/C.
Just wondering how the tour went this year and who might have gone besides you. Was looking forward to your daily reports but didn't see any. Please post some pics and a little about how it went when you can.
 
Finally back. All went well for me. It was a great time. I will post later when I have more time. This time I was very busy every day and drained out from the heat so had no energy to post at night. I was able to meet @72MustangSprint and @Tnfastbk . I will let them tell there side of the story.

Here is a written report. Pictures to follow tomorrow.
In total I drove 2,865 miles round trip including an extra 50 miles when I realized I had forgotten my wallet at home so I had to drive back. The longest drives were from Madison to Memphis and from Chattanooga to Madison. Both were about 700 miles. In total I used 185 gallons of gas for an average of 16.7 mpg. The best number was 19.9 mpg. This includes hours sitting in standstill traffic, autocross and drag racing.

All in all it was a special and priceless experience. The tour is about the car people that you talk to and the cars that you see. There are all kind of cars. A lot of sleepers. It is not uncommon to see a rusted old car with a twin turbo LS swap. It is also not uncommon to see a rusted old car with a rusted smoking engine. The most common cars I will guess are the Chevelles and Camaros. A few Mustangs. I may have seen about 6 to 8 of our years. A few more of the 64.5-70s and many of the later years. Definitely, the tour is heavy in Chevys over all other brands.

This year it was hot, really hot. Since there are so many cars there were also hours of traffic, but this is to be expected. A lot of cars overheated. Mine behaved well but I had to turn the A/C off a couple of times when the temps were in the upper 90s and sitting in traffic for half an hour. When on the go I had no issues with temperature. The worst situation was as we arrived to Nashville the temp was in the upper 90s and the traffic hardly moved for an hour. I kept the A/C too long and turned it off to late. The coolant temp got to 230 when I decided to pop the hood open. This help to keep the temp at 231 and as soon as we moved the temp went quickly down.

I was able to do Autocross in Memphis and Birmingham, i dyno the car in Pensacola and run the drag strip in Atlanta. I blew an alternator belt during the burnout before my fifth pass which took the steering and water pump belts with it. Obviously, I had to abort that pass which it hurts because I wanted to beat the Camaro next to me. In previous passes I beat a Challenger and a Genesis V8. I had extra belts and installed them on the track with the help of @Tnfastbk - thank you!

I met @72MustangSprint as we drove past Shelbytown, which by the way I think it is one of the coolest names a town can have. We spent some good time talking about our cars.

The drives were nice and since I was one of the fastest drivers, my car show was while driving. In Pensacola I made it to the beach and took some cool pictures with the beach in the background.

I don't have the pictures with me today so I will try to upload them tomorrow.

Thanks for the write up and pics. Glad to hear all went well other than the weather. I know you can't really compare because of different dyno and track but how was your dyno pull and track time this year compared to last?
 
This year's dyno was the same traveling dyno as last year so it should be a good comparison. Last year I made 366 HP and 420 torque with a known bad spark plug. This year I made 404/462. However, I am still trying to figure out what happened because the dyno shows about 500 rpm slower than the data log from my FiTech. So something is off.
