I purchased my 1972 Mach 1 Mustang in 2003 from a dirt floor garage in Maryland for $300 not know I got what I was truly purchasing or known much about Mustangs at all. It is an R Code. It was a rolling chassis that sat there since 1983. I bought it where it sat in my garage till it’s first restoration getting it just running in 2010 with a 351M. Paid way too much for too little work and too many issues but did get to drive it a bit, maybe 1,000 miles. 2019 I started a whole new full restoration which is just beginning assembly now. I’ve pulled Marti Report and think I know it’s back story. I can’t wait to enjoy it as I enter retirement. I look forward to others with like interests to share this journey with.

Trust me, I made up for it with my first “Reno” that got it running while breaking the bank, but little else. It’s taken another 10 years to do it over but right. I’ve paid for that deal.

Welcome from Idaho.
Dang man, you won the lottery buying it for $300.00. Like most on here we dumped way to much money into our dream. I often hear the comment.....how much money you got into it? But you know what? we have a classic mustang and they dont!

True. As I see classics on the road, and new cars trying to pass as classics, the 71-73 is still the gem that stands alone and stands out on the road without over saturating the landscape. That I like.

Welcome from Germany!

We have all been there (OK, not all but many) but now you are lucky and know what you have. It is a real rare car. Now assembling is where the fun starts - I am in the same boat now. Keep us posted about your progress and have fun!

What do you think is a good way to share the progress in a manner that is of interest to others without an overload or information dump? Because I’ve been documenting it all looking to do a photo book when it’s all done and after realizing I too way too few photos in it’s early years.

Great story! I look forward to seeing your progress. The folks on here should be a great resource for advice and camaraderie.

I would open a restoration thread and insert the most significant steps you did since your start with only small descriptions. Pictures tell their own stories most. So you could then start from now. Going this way you have also something like a diary you could switch to years later. That's how I write on my restoration thread since 2014...
