I don't know if this has been posted before, but I found this vid of a Mach 1 race car. It looks a bit of a monster. Does anyone know anything about it?

Sorry, but i know nothing about the Mustang. Looks really cool though.

One thing that occurred to me was the safety aspect of that meeting. If the driver lost control of the Stang, i don't think the bales of straw are going to save the spectators from a crash . Car ploughes into crowd scenario.:-/

Yes it is the old Dark Horse Racing team car.

They sold it a few years back. Seriously built car. Quite a few posts on here about it.

Thanks for the info. So the car has some racing pedigree then, cool. Good to know the 71-73s have been raced (even if it was by privateers), everything I read says it all stopped when Ford pulled out of the Trans Am series.

Found an older pic of it:

Racing never stopped. Ford pulling out just dropped their support factory backed teams.

Warren Tope's 73 road racer was picked up by Bill Maier (Maier Racing). The company still sells high performance Mustang goodies.

The car is now owned by a member on the Boss 302 forum.

Here is me (wanna be racer) in the Boss racing at Hallett road racing track back in about 1982!

I was running open Hooker headers shifting at about 7,000 RPM. Had a BLAST. I remember **** Smith, famed Cobra team driver for Shelby was our distinguished invited driver/track safety teacher.

He pulled me aside and said, "...looking good in that Boss. You sure are squirting it hard!". Implying I was pushing the RPM's. I was shifting about 7500! :)

BTW I have original block and that motor was not the original.

Gee they really were great looking as a race car and such a shame that all factory support was pulled (not just Ford) as it would have been an all out war in 71, I mean just look at T/A racing, by 1970 all the factories were playing the game and it was absolutely massive, but then the government got involved. They all faced congress and basically threatened the car companies with potential lawsuits if they kept building these types of cars for the street, so overnight the game was basically all over for factory backed teams, what a shame. These cars also looked great as Funny cars also. Graeme Cowin has a few of them here in Australia as part of his nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars that he takes around the country. The only downside is they are all fitted with Chrysler based Hemi's. Be heaps better if they had either a Cammer or a Boss Hemi under those beatiful bodies.

BTW Ray, that would've been an absolute blast fanging around the track in your Boss and listening to that sweet Cleveland music being pumped out the pipes. The sound of a Cleveland singing at 7000+ RPM is one of the best sounds you can listen too, but then again they sound great at any revs.
