Items not back ordered, but missing. Poor communication on other issues as well. Not trying to flame too hard on them, but is that how these guys typically operate?

How many have experienced this stuff and just quit buying from these guys?

That's a bad name on this site. Seems like a lot of members including myself have had issues with them. It's been about a fifty fifty shot with the issues I've had and getting them resolve. Try Ohio Mustang Supply. http://www.ohiomustang.com/ Don is a member and carries a wide assortment of parts for our cars. Most of his pricing is competitive. Stands behind his products and will take care of you. If he doesn't have it you can try National Parts Depot or go back to CJ Pony. There are about a dozen sites out there where you can get parts.

I don't understand why members still buy from them!? Is it because of free shipping or getting points? I much rather pay for shipping and get the correct part within a few days not weeks or even months! Not to mention when they did cancel some of my items about 3 years ago. Horrible customer service, little knowledge of what parts fit and or are correct, back orders etc. I once waited on a part for about 4 months and when I called them they told me it was unavailable!! They couldn't call me and tell me that?? I stopped using them about 3 years ago.

I'm guessing CJ's ... but I've only used them twice from here in UK, about this time last year... they seemed to be ok back then. ...wonder what has changed?
Yes he is talking about CJ Pony Parts.  Nothing has changed, they have always been shitty.  You just got lucky with your order.

Why don't we invite a CJ representative in here and voice the gripes? ...  the 71-73 style gets it's 50th anniversary next year ...they might do something for us.

Yes, yes it is. CJ has gotten huge in the last ten years or so, clearly they have outstripped their ability (or willingness) to provide the customer with a positive experience.

Their prices aren't that great either.

I have bought exactly one item from them in over thirty years of Mustangs and it did arrive quickly, but the stories I hear are enough to rarely give them a thought. I have heard of them substituting name brand items for their "CJ Classics" brands without refunding the difference in cost, mis-ships, damaged items that were clearly damaged before shipment, low fill rates and on and on and on and on.....

If you want good service, stick with Don @OMS & NPD. There are plenty of other good vendors out there, but these two are proven top notch.

Nothing, you just got lucky. They've been like this for a long time.

Just my experience - I've used CJ for a lot of things. I have experienced an occasional hiccup with part availability, but overall, they have done well by me. My biggest gripe is that once in a while they don't have an item that shows in stock, but that has honestly been rare - maybe twice out of perhaps 30 or so orders over the last couple years. Not perfect or ideal, but not so bad either.

The few times i complained, I got a response and a refund was offered with no hassle.

Great idea but I doubt that will happen.  I'll skip the details of the problem but sent an email to Kevin Hiltz who is their senor customer care rep.  Never heard back.  No acknowledgement of my email or problem.  At least a quick wham bam thank you ma'am would of gone a long way.

In todays competitive marketplace top level customer service is the one thing you need to keep and increase your customer base.  It seems that to many businesses have forgotten that.

I must say when I signed up a few weeks ago I asked about vendors, OMS and NPD were sort of 1 and 2, was told CJ should be a last stop. I have been buying some parts here and there getting ready to do my work once it comes back from a mechanics shop and have purchased quite a few parts from KY Mustang, Eckler's (Mac's) and NPD and so far everything is perfect. I did pick up a few things as well from OMS but via ebay and I even scored an almost NOS LIGHTS bezel from West Coast Cougar (cars parts, not older women)

CJ's did like a few other vendors did. They tried expanding into other thing's they knew nothing about. It's not working out well. My last visit this spring was, they only needed one person behind the counter. I was the only one there. They quit coming to the ford nationals in Carlisle about 5 yrs. ago. It's been down hill since then.

Multiple Mustangs!
I have had great experience with NPD and with Daniel Carpenter.

I ordered paint to refinish a set of Sport Wheel covers and their catalog listed as being correct for wheel covers so I ordered. It was wrong so I went to their comment area and stated it was wrong. The next day I had an email from them and they apologized and agreed that the catalog was wrong and offered to send me the correct paint for free. I had already done the caps and did not get the right one.

The other was when I ordered the lower control arms from my Mach 1. I ordered the MOOG that was said to be exact match. When they came they were different in the area of the sway bar mount. I again went on the site and added a comment on the product and again got a email from the manager with a picture of a the control arm on a 73 cougar in their collection. It is the last cougar convertible built and has a few hundred miles on it and is in Charlotte. The control arm they sent was exactly like the one on the car. So my car had another of those running changes Ford does on it.

They do have specialists for each car they supply parts for and you will get an answer from them.

I ordered some tail light lens and new frames from Daniel Carpenter on his ebay store. When they came one was broke they did not even want a pic or the old one back they sent another the next day.

I talked with a plating supplier at a show last summer. He said he did all of the Carpenters repo parts. Said they were the best customer he had always paid on time and never an issue for years.

My friend that restores cars uses NPD in Charlotte for lots of different cars and never has an issue. If he does not like they take back and replace. He got quarter panel for a camaro and he told them it was 2" off for the wheel opening. They said not way but sent another and he sent back and they called and agreed somehow was way off. Taiwan made of course.

Another bonus is they have great catalogs.

The guy I bought my Mustang from recommended CJs and being new to Mustang resto's, I took his advise. To be honest, I have not had the greatest experience with them. I ordered one tail lamp panel and they shipped and charged me for two. I called and they claimed I must have ordered two. I sent them the screen shot of my cart that I saved showing only one ordered but they didn't seem to care about that and refused to pay for the return shipping. They said I could return one panel for the $140.00 credit, minus handling. I packaged it up and went to the post office and they said it was over their size limit, the UPS store said it was $150 to ship it back, Fed Ex wanted $155. A friend of mine told me he had a buddy with a 72 Grande that needed one so I just gave it to him so it wouldn't go to waste and it wasn't cluttering up my garage. I have not since and will not buy anything else from CJ after that. I also felt the quality of some of the things I bought wasn't really great. I have since started buying mostly everything from NPD and Kentucky Mustang and have had good experiences with those purchases.

I only do business with CJs is when absolutely nobody else has what I need. They no longer answer the phone. Its all online and its on your nickel to ship back items under ANY circumstances.....your fault, their fault or nobody's fault. I ordered replacement door panels and they were incomplete and warped. I would have had to strip things that weren't there on my old panels and try to heat up the plastic backing and flatten the panel. NOPE! I sent them back, back when they actually answered the phone. Cost me plenty on shipping. The very last purchase was a replacement padded dash top.....because no one else had it. Since then only as a last resort...... Oh, by the way, they ship their parts by donkey. Takes at least 10-15 days to get your stuff.

Yeah, NPD is the way to go, along with several of the small vendors. Avoid CJPP.

My all time favorite vehicle is our 1969 Shelby GT500
CJ Pony Parts has, so far, done right by me. But, over the past 2 years I have opted to purchase from other vendors on account of the reported issues others have had. The other vendors have done a great job, so it is not likely I will be buying from CJ in the future. My more favorite sites include NPD, Ohio Mustang, WCCC. Anything electrical I check to see what RocketMan offers before going elsewhere (https://www.rccinnovations.com/index.php?show=wiring).
