Found one paragraph that makes the book worth every cent.

When my mechanic installed the rebuilt long block purchased

from Don of OMS he said the valve lift was measured accurately

at 0.58. There is not one cam made for Ford listed in Summit

Racing's catalog that even comes close to that. So what gives?

I was beginning to believe the mechanic must have measured wrong.

On page 41 of the book there is mention of a racing cam made by

Ford specifically for use in the Cleveland with 0.580 valve lift.

Mike, your so right! this book is like a good mystery novel, it answers so many questions,and yet it still has a few surprises left. so far i've only found one inconsistent statement, pg.39 par.2 here the author states that all 2-V Clevelands shard the same cams with event ranges differing. that got me to thinkin,(dangerous habit of mine) so i did some research and found many inconsistent conclusions in this chapter,or my reference material is wrong. I'm working on a study right now and i will post it soon.

Scares the hell out of me. That is why we went with a bigger carb.

If that cam at 0.58 lift IS the Ford racing cam mentioned in the book,

the duration at 0.050 is 238/248 and the timing 43-73-84-42. Since

the cam is a mechanical one and I have hydraulic lifters it would be

nice to assume whoever did the rebuild used hydraulic lifters that

act like solid ones. The book mentions hydraulic lifters that have an

"anti-pump-up" design that allows them to work at 6500 rpm.

My book came in today and I cannot put it down. I read about the .58 lift cam. Better keep those rpms up. ;)
It is supposed to be dog at low rpm, but this engine

will pull the car up a 10% grade in 1st at 500 rpm.

I see no problems with low rpm and torque. I would not

take the engine to the rated rpm. Don't know how the water

pump, power steering and alternator would like that.

It is safe to say when the car is performing as well as I like it,

there is still 20-25% to go :cool:

that's good to know. I've got an engine with a .531 intake & .543 exhaust valve lift cam that I haven't run yet. It's also got 272 & 276 duration with a 110* lobe center topped with a Torker intake. It's going to be matched up with a top loader.

Based on your results I can hardly wait to drop it in. Sweet!!!!
