Mustang part numbers and description

Is there such a list that would tell you what each part number is and what it looks like?

I have part No. D1ZB-6504393, but I forgot where it goes and don't know what it would be called.
I also have the plastic piece the goes in the door jamb, it looks like some sort of vent. Things like that.

Assembly manual, get that for your vehicle. I have the 71-73 book, but it’s at my Az home, which I will be at on Tuesday, if you can wait.

The assembly manuals Steve suggested are great resources. You don't realize how many different pieces it took to screw one of these beasts together until you have one completely torn down to a bare body shell! The body and interior manuals will probably be the most helpful, but there are electrical and body weld and sealant manuals that are useful, but you may use them less often.

The illustrations below indicate the locations of the two parts you inquired about.

The Body and Part illustration CD, then the Assembly Paper manuals with the illustrations are the first place I look. As a last resort, I go to the Master Parts ^ Accessories CDs for 1965-72 Ford Ford Car MPAC or 1973-79 Ford Car MPAC, these don't have pictures and they are a challenge sometimes to search thru, but it's all there. About 20 years ago I picked up a good reference parts book published by Warner Robert Publishing (also known as Robert Lane) called the 1969-1973 Mustang & Shelby Parts Identifier. It was printed back in the mid-90s and revisions were available for a few years, until Ford sued the company, I presume over licensing rights. I particularly liked the notes on color codes used on many of the parts listed. My copy is 120 pages, but I don't think it was a complete listing of all parts. If you can find a copy of it buy it.

Thanks that helps a lot. Is there any reason why the drivers side piece (04393) is plastic and the passenger side is metal?
Also thanks for IDing the other piece also, I couldn't find anything on it.

The MPC are available as a free download. I do not have the link... sorry . It can take a bit to figure out but it has provided me part numbers for things not shown in the repro assy manuals....or perhaps I just couldn't find them in there.

Despite having lots of Ford parts manuals for vintage Mustangs (Ford vehicles in general, actually), I find the fastest way to szee what a prt is when you have a full, or even a partial, number is to google it. Typically I key in something like, "Ford part number D1ZB-6504393" and a result comes back almost immediately. If I do not get a concise enough answer I will dive into the PDF files I have on the parts to try to figure the part out by decoding the number. Sometimes, especially with partial numbers, that can be a very time consuming task. With the near immediate response from Google I usually make it my first stop, and often it is my last stop also.

Hemi, I bought the CD from HiPo Parts. It is a very cumbersome format. Unless I used it frequently, I'll never get efficient at finding PN's.

I wonder if the Forel version is easier to navigate? Do you happen to know?

The previews they show on the listing look nicely indexed, just like their manuals. I'm still using my MPC that I've had for 15+ years and indexed myself, with bookmarks for commonly used sections.

I have the same shop manual...it's even searchable. Is your Parts Catalog searchable? Mine is not. Here's a screencap opened to the what I think is the same page as your pic.

I'll look and see if I can modify the bookmarks with the free version of adobe I have. I have the full version at work, but I can't bring docs in/out of their network w/o violating policy.

That MPC index looks like the one that used to be sold by Sea-Tools.com. I have his Mercury MPC and while it's part number indexed, it has no descriptions.

I have an old version of Acrobat Pro, so I can edit, annotate, bookmark etc at will. I also ran the file through OCR so it is searchable to the extent the system did it's thing.

I found the link. You will want to open the Illustrations folder and download the individual section you are interested in OR download the 138MB FP-7635 file.
