Working up the nerve to swap out the FMX for a top loader. I've pieced together all the parts (I think) and have already installed the clutch pedal assembly. Now the fun part...dropping the tranny. Upon a closer look of the bellhousing I purchased (it is the correct D1TA-6394-AA), I noticed a bolt hole adjacent to the clutch fork opening that doesn't appear on photos of other bellhousings. Maybe from a different Ford? Is there something I'm missing that's supposed to go there? I'm sure I'll have a few more questions along the way. If anyone else has made this same swap, would welcome any tips.

Hello dawson357,
The bell housing in your possession with the "Mystery" hole is showing its origins. This particular bell housing is sourced from the Truck line with 240, 300, 302, and later 351W (E Series only) engines from '65-77. There were eight different part number changes and way too many applications to list here.

The hole is for a pivot for the clutch equalizer bar (Z Bar) that bolts directly to the bell housing instead of a bracket, as you would see on many of the car applications. These pivot bolts were used on E and F series trucks with 240, 300 6 cyl, and 302 engines.
The illustrations show one of the two different pivot bolts used and the bolt with the 358979-S felt washer,
C1AA-7543-A nylon bushing and 97474-S retainer clip. :)

Thanks for the enlightenment! Unlimited knowledge on this sight. I suppose I can still use this as I don't want to source yet another one. I also have a C5TA-6394-A which is for a 70 351C. The only difference I've noticed is another bolt hole on the bottom flange where the D1TA has none. I'll be mating this up with a RUG-E1 from a 68 Mustang.
