My Car
351C Cobra replica
Hi all guys, I have true blue in my blood, so needed to join. I always wanted a Mustang but had to settle with a self-built replica Cobra, and yes, it is powered by Ford and a 351 Cleveland at that. So, I am in the process of building a 351C for my sprinter van, soon-to-be motor home. I first used one shortblock, i bought from some body ages ago, and by the looks of the cylinders with no ridges, decided to go ahead and assemble the motor without stripping down first. Well, it turned out a bad idea, as the motor has very little compression! I am now going with my other block, where the cam drive gear setup gave gave problems and ending up, bending valves. I will use (aussie) 2V small chamber heads and my self made IDF manifold. Question is this, the one block is a DOAE-J and the other a DOAE-L block. What would be the difference?20220502_151843.jpg20220502_163522.jpg20220502_163623_03.jpg

From what I can see the early J block has 2 additional drain holes in the rear valley:

Thank you, I will definitely check tomorrow! Coincidentally, the two blocks were cast merely days apart, going by the numbers!

Hi guys, I checked today and made a video of it, this J-Block does not have the 2 additional oil drain holes at the back of the lifter valley.

Well there goes another one of those internet supposed facts into the garbage can again. I guess that not all J code blocks have those 2 additional drain holes in the back... Just like the 4 dot and no dot heads...

I do have a few blocks in my shed, perhaps there is another J-Block hiding in there? I will check over the weekend.
