Australian Ford Falcon 302 Windsor Fuel Injected L.S.D 2001 model. I am in the market for a 1971/73 Mach 1 Mustang and have joined to learn as much as possible. We pay about $45,000 USD for LHD models registered here in Australia but there are only a few for sale. I am interested in possible imports but need to learn more.

Hello to all you lucky Mustang owners. I have joined today as I am in the market for a 71-73 Mach 1 and I want to learn as much as possible before I take the leap.

I love the 71-73 shape and it is the only Mustang I am interested in owning. Ideally, a 429 but more than likely, a 351 is more realistic. There is little available in Australia and whats worth looking at are asking $45000 USD so I am very seriously considering importing although than can open a can of worms. I would be very interested to hear peoples experiences buying cars through 'Muscle Car Specialist' dealers etc that advertise on Hemmings etc. Please keep in mind I am in Australia and whilst I have a fair idea which states are dry & which get snow, I am no expert! I look forward to chatting with anybody who cares to help. My current cars are Australian Ford Falcons which are sports models called XR8. They have Injected 302 Windsor's putting out 220kw standard. Extractors & free flow exhausts along with a decent tune quickly improves that figure, but they are certainly no Mustang, thats for sure.

Hi and welcome from Amsterdam, The Netherlands! I lived in Adelaide for a few years, and visited other parts like Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and some other towns. I loved Australia but unfortunately had to head back here again...

Anyways, I hope you'll find a 'stang you like, good luck!

Vince.

I have just acquired a 1971 Mach 1 and setting out on a restomod to make this vehicle something different and special.
This forum is my choice as 71-73 models are not popular in Australia and information is difficult to find.
My VIN: 1F05M218422
It will be along the lines of one in Japan.

Welcome to the Forum and also as another Australian Member.

I may be able to assist you with the shipping of your Mustang when you find

the right one - I have a friend who brings in two containers a month of cars or parts

mainly antiques.

I use him to bring my parts into Sydney for my project - 71 Mach 1 Restomod.

Hopefully some of our Members may be able to source you a suitable car or guide

you in the right direction.

I cannot speak highly enough of Don from Ohio Mustang Supply - you need to have

a real live Mustang guy to correspond with!

Good Luck,

Melfunctions (Melbourne)

Welcome from down in Bendigo.

I count myself lucky, I got my rust free Californian Mustang back when the Aus dollar was parity with the US dollar for only $18000 AUD which was pretty cheap even considering that the bloke who imported it probably made five or six thousand profit on it at the time....

Howdy from Phoenix Arizona.

Arizona is a good place to find rust free cars. I can't help with shipping but if you see one in the Phoenix area that you are seriously interested in buying I would be happy to go take a look at it for you. I am not an 'expert' on originality and cannot offer an appraisal. But I can take lots of pics, look for rust, offer my honest opinion. I have owned my mustang for 30 plus years and do know a bit about them. PM me if you stumble on one you are interested in.

Welcome from SW Ontario Canada.

There are several trustworthy guys on this Forum who can offer solid advice and help. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

The guys at MotorCity Mustang may also be a good place to ask as they restore these cars. They are members here too.

Geoff.

Welcome from the other side of the island

Do your research before you jump the gun

Have a chat to Melfunctions and perhaps Harry's in Sydney

Also these people import cars/parts - http://usatoaus.com/

One thing to research is the costs involved in importing and getting it through registration compared to buying an Australian registered vehicle

Good luck in your search
