The last few times I have logged on the number of unread posts is 2000+ but they are not unread and I had to go and look through all of them to make sure. Is this a problem on my end or something with the site?

Hell. I Got 9704 but only joined last summer. Figure it's since inception. Great reading though in my spare time. If you do like I do and do a search on some of the questions I have, there is a lot in here.

But I had it down to 40 or so last time and I don't think 2000 posts have happened over night. Not to mention I have remember seeing those posts and it also shows me some of my posts.

Just click on "MARK FORUMS READ" on the right side of the page...on the same line as the unread posts link.

The counter counts posts...not just threads, so you could have read a thread and then someone posted new posts in the same thread. They add up quick! The best bet is to reset the counter after each visit so you start with a fresh list of unreads. I use the NEW POSTS button daily so it really doesn't matter. I still see all the new stuff as it comes in. It's just nice to have the unread posts button to help not miss anything.
