G'day, All Hoping someone can help me out with the right oil pan to buy, I'm working on putting a 460 into my 72 Mach 1, And have settled on using Hooker super comp headers - 6115's. And was looking to buy this oil pan Kit,

With the widened front section, will their be enough clearance for the header? or do I need to use somthing else?

Like this one,

Thanks Terry

I am also in the process of doing this engine swap. The hooker headers you mention have pipes running under the crossmember that could have clearance issues themselves without concidering the larger oil pan. Did you look at FPA headers ? That maybe a possible soloution. Take a look.

Thanks, Jay

I had used the hooker headers myself first and had nothing but problems. The passenger side hit the oil pan and the driver’s side touched the pitman arm. Went with FPA and all the clearance problems were solved. I recommend FPA as well and also a power steering cooler for safety. The headers sits so close to the gear box it could boil your fluid and ruin the seals

 I consider that to be a fitment problem?!

There is/was a thread on the FPA/385 subject in this forum. I don't believe that the issues were solved, only band aid and BFH fixes. Could be wrong, though.

Too bad, 'cause I really like the look and general idea of the mid length myself.

My Dad tried a 460 swap into a '57 Fairlane. Even with a '58-59 steering box (sits an inch further outboard than the stock box), there's no way headers work comfortably in that car on the left side. Has the identical problem as in the Mustang, even with the Crites "swap" headers for the application.

That's how I ended up with the fresh 460 for my car...:-/

MMMM the FPA headers look good But, I don't think they would allow enough flow, I'm using TrickFlow heads and hoping for around 500hp, at the flywheel. the front is lowwered 1' using 620 springs. If all else fails the headman headers could be an option, but they only have 1 3/4' primarys

Another set that I had been eyeing up for many years are the Mad Dog #8008.

I've found accurate feedback regarding fitment on the web to be fairly scarce, unfortunately.

Maybe an email regarding your combo may help?

Food for thought.

I might have to look into getting a set of these tri-Y's to fit, these are for our aussie right hand drive falcons with a BBF, 2' primarys. 2 1/4' secondarys and a 2 1/2' outlet,

Which is kinda weird, as ford Australia never made a big block car, an we have two manufactures making this style of header, I thought getting the same for a L/H/D Mustang would have been easy.....
